16 million is still...unreasonable. TV doesn't work like that anymore.

I can already tell we're in for a bunch of unnecessary meltdowns here at CFANS.

Julie Andrews live version of Cinderella had 107 million viewers, I would take half of that... Times have change and an not expecting anything close to that but I am truly hoping for 50-60 million viewers...please, please, please!!!!!

Also please go buy the soundtrack!!!!!
Let's keep this in the realm of reality. For the most part, nothing but football gets more than 20 million these days. Cinderella was at a time when you could count the number of channels on one hand. Now you have hundreds. And SOM is going against all new programming on the other networks. I personally think it will do better than 8 million. I think it should be at least in the 10-15 million range, which would be great.

You are one of the ppl that I look up to On this board as you guys are the voice of reasons. Then I am hoping for 12 million viewers at least. And I promise you, I won't cause any stink abt the rating as I will be to mesmerized by what Carrie has accomplished.

Not disappointing, just positive thinking. Most of the competition that night will be reruns or replacement shows. I've got a good feeling about this.

8-10 million, average viewership for a classic
10-15 million really good, probably win time slot
15-20 million really great, sweep the night
over 20 million, other producers will be looking into bringing
back the musical as great family entertainment

I agree, except I think that it's possible 15-20 million could give reason for the producers to try another musical especially if SOM gets a great audience feedback. Because even if the audience numbers aren't as high, the positive word of mouth could encourage people to watch another LIVE production when they realized what they missed out on with SOM. I guess it all depends on how much this whole production actually ends up costing them vs. $ it brings in.

What I love is that at the end of the "Making of" is when Carrie says that they just want to do their best to contribute to the legacy of SOM.

SOM will be up against new episodes of the usual network sitcoms. Big Bang will easily win the 8-8:30 time slot. It usually draws just under 20 million. If SOM draws 8 to 10, we will be lucky. I think a lot of people will record it to minimize 3 hours of commercials. Also, as Julie Andrews pointed out, it's hard to say how a play will fair on TV. Musical theater has a much smaller audience. We need to hope Carrie fans watch in mass and most everybody who is a fan of the original.

One more point of reference. For the last few years, the Sound of Music movie has pulled between 3.7 and 5.2 million. So the Making Of special drew about as much as the movie draws.

Has a musical theater ever aired live on TV? Or a move esque live THREE hours production?

Excited but TERRIFIED. Anything can happen live! No do-overs. Nada. You got to be on every single minute of that three hours. Carrie's fearless, that girl.

I don't know if I can even handle watching it live. lol

The last time was in 1957. That was Cinderella with Julie Andrews.
