Carrie Sent Flowers to (CF Member) Don's Funeral!!

If you missed my original post about Don Turner's passing, I've pasted it below. I was absolutely floored last night when Don's son contacted me to let me know that he got to the funeral home for the services and was reading the cards on the flowers and the first card he read was on a bouquet of flowers sent by none other than Carrie herself.

For those who don't know the back story, Don was one of the original Carrie fans-literally. He was a SUPER active member (and mod) of CF from its inception and for many years to follow. Though he wasn't active here for a while, he still continued to be a huge fan. Don met Carrie at her first ever concert in Portland, ME and at many, many other shows to follow (when she used to do signings at her booth after shows). I don't know his final concert tally, but it had to be at least 60 shows.

At a meet and greet I had a few months back I had made Carrie aware of Don's illness and members of her crew were kind enough to work it out that I was able to get something special signed for him. When I spoke with her, she was so genuine and saddened to hear of his illness and had since found ways to keep up with how he was doing.

While I'm always impressed to read the many great things that Carrie does in the public eye, I have to say that it is things like this, things that people would never know about, that absolutely blow me away. Honestly, can you think of a super star of Carrie's magnitude that would take it upon herself to send flowers to the funeral of a fan? This just really speaks volumes about what an amazing and thoughtful person she really is.

Needless to say, Don's son was absolutely floored-he couldn't believe it. He obviously knew that his dad was a huge Carrie fan, but certainly didn't expect this. He said that it just made him realize what a "real" person she is. His grand daughter (who is also a Carrie fan) was absolutely blown away-completely touched.

I went back and forth as to whether to post this, but knowing Don well, I know that he'd want you all to know how amazing Carrie is. It certainly provided such a huge bright spot for his family at such an otherwise sad time.

    Original post:

RIP CF Member Don TurnerFor those of you who go way back on Carriefans, I'm sure you fondly remember Don Turner (donturner98). He was a member of this forum from the start and was a moderator for a long time. He was an avid fan of Carrie, having attended around 60 concerts. Many of us enjoyed his many wonderful concert reviews and his quirky sense of humor.

With the permission of his son, I'm posting the unfortunate news that Don passed away yesterday. He fought a courageous battle with leukemia and had undergone a stem cell transplant a few months ago.

I know I can speak for the many of us on here that met Don that he was a wonderfully kind man and will be sorely missed. RIP Don.

WOW!! Thank you so much for posting this. I asked about Don from time to time here. I was extremely saddened to hear of his illness and passing. He's someone I wish I could have chatted with again. I'm floored by Carrie's kindness and compassion sending flowers to one of her fans funeral. Don will be missed.

Thanks for sharing, Heather. I didn't think I could love Carrie any more than I already did, but I do. She has such a kind, tender heart.

I only met Don once, at Mystic Lake casino when you girls got in trouble, and Don bailed you out. He was a special man, and oh so funny! He fought his battle with courage, humor, and spirituality. He will be greatly missed!

Carrie is such a caring and kind person and sending flowers for Don I'm sure was very special for his family. And thanks to you Heather , Don was able to enjoy a message from Carrie herself before he died, that was a gift at a time he needed it the most. Thank you for posting this.

What an amazing and inspiring tribute to one of Carrie's biggest fans! Just when you think you cannot love this woman any more than you already do, she does something completely and utterly beautiful like this! What a wonderful memory for the family left behind!

How incredibly touching. Carrie is as genuine as they come, how kind of her to send flowers! Even though I'm not an official part of the FC, I feel as if I am sometimes and that is because of fans like you guys. 60 shows--wow! What a fan!!
