    Grading ALL the Singles!!!

Since we are so divivded by the release of SYA, I wanted to see how you guys feel about the other song. I listed each single from each album and also gave it a grade to compare.

I can't wait to see how others feel.
    Some Hearts

    • Jessus Take The Wheel (A+) (Even though I am Muslim, I can relate to this song. This song is so spiritual and I love the way Carrie sings it. GREAT FIRST SINGLE, obviously!)
    • Don’t Forget To Remember Me (C){This one of my least favorite single. I never really liked it much)
    • Before He Cheats (A) (What can I say …it’s obvious)
    • Wasted (A+) (Lyrically, this is a beautiful dong and if it wasn’t for BHC, this song would have been HUGE, definitely the most underrated SINGLE!)

    Carnival Ride

    • So Small (A) (one of my personal favorite, and is one my top 3 Carrie songs)
    • All American Girl (B) (it’s was a good, fun different song)
    • Last Name (C) {I really disliked this song but it’s a great concert song}
    • Just a Dream (A+) (so haunting and great visually)
    • I Told You So (A) (I never really liked this song until it was a single and it sounds so much better LIVE. I think she sounds a little nasally on the recorded version)

    Play On

    • Cowboy Casanova (C-) (I never liked this song either, lyrically it is just too cheesy for me. The content of the song is pretty blah)

    • Temporary Home (B) (also very underrated and deserved more wins)
    • Undo It (C) {once again, lyrically this is just as bad as CC but I love how she goes into high gear when she sings this. It’s a great concert song to sing along too}.
    • Mama’s Song (B-) {I know many of you don’t like this song but she sounds so angelic when she sings it. MS sounds great when you drive alone at night and listen to it. I love this song!}

    Blown Away

    • Good Girl (B-) (I am sick of the boy bashing songs released as singles, this was different for Carrie and vocally it’s one her best. But I really hate the last line “Better get to getting on your good bye shoes”.)
    • Blown Away (A+) (Initially, I wasn’t blown away by BA but as you listen to you it truly is a great song and one of her best single released. I wish she had a hand in writing this song but am glad that Carrie recorded it and am THRILLED BA won 2 Grammys.)
    • Two Black Cadillacs (A+) (I loved this song since we found out she wrote a song called 2BC,. I was intrigued by the title and loved the song from the beginning. I think this took Carrie’s writing skills to a whole different level. It’s sad that it was not able to get the BB #1, but am so happy it’s was well received by ALL)
    • See You Again (D) (I never liked this song and always skipped it. To me, everything about this song was so wrong. I don’t like the production, they way she sings it and the “oh, oh, oh” annoys me. I never thought that this would be a single, BOY, did my jaws dropped when I found out!)

With that said, I must say that I am disappointed and some what irrated that my some of my favorite songs never seen the day of light.

    • I just can’t live a lie/Start with Goodbye (they should of released at least one of those songs.
    • When ever You Rememeber (it’s a great graduation song and the kids would of eaten it up)
    • Get Out Of This Town (this would have been a GREAT spring/summer single but CR had some great singles, so I can’t really complain about CR singles.)
    • Wheel of the World {ok, this one is a little to slow for radio and is very receptive but the meaning is so WONDERFUL!!! SHORT AND BEAUITFUL)
    • You won’t Find This (I loved this song too!
    • Someday When I Stop Loving You (this song, in my opinion is one of Carrie’s best song. The way she delivers this song is just mesmerizing. I will never forgive for not releasing this song. This IMO is better than WAW}.
    • This Time (I really liked this song and it was different for Carrie)

It must be stressed that the grading is not based on how I feel about the songs, but rather the wisdom of releasing them to country radio.

^^I agree....I love Mama's Song and I'm a guy I mean, obviously everyone has their right to not enjoy the song, but I've never understood the unanimous and unrelenting hatred towards it

Hmm, this is an interesting thread. I feel like I need to give it thought. But I will say that if I'm grading the songs based on my personal preference, their grades would be much different than if grading them on what I believe should actually be singles for country radio.

    Anyway, I'll be back.

I'm not sure if you want me to grade them as singles or as songs. I'd definitely give different ratings. So I'll just do both.

    Before He Cheats: A+
    Wasted: A

This may sound like a stupid question why does it matter So much to people if their personal favorite isn't released as a single. There's nothing stopping us from listening to them. Since all of her singles have been successful it's not like their choices have been detrimental to her career. As for MS I've said this numerous times that it is one of my favorites of all time.

    LN: B-

I'm too generous. I'd feel bad about giving anything less than a B-.

I’ll also grade both the singles and the songs themselves as well.

    Some Hearts:

    Jesus, Take The Wheel

    Song: A
    Single: A

This song has a great message and visual lyrics; I think it was the perfect way to introduce Carrie to the country audience.

    Don’t Forget To Remember Me

    Song: A
    Single: A

Another solid song and single; I think DFTRM is one of Carrie’s most underrated songs/singles, too. The message, vocal, and lyrics are perfect. It’s kind of a shame it got lost in the shuffle between two huge singles, because I think it deserved a lot more attention than it received.

    Before He Cheats

    Song: A+
    Single: A+

Perfect song, perfect vocal, and plenty of attitude. This was really the first single to show off an entirely different side of Carrie, and I adore everything about the result.

    Wasted

    Song: -A
    Single: A

I’ll be honest and say I’ve never cared much for the studio version of this song. The lyrics are fantastic, and Carrie’s vocal is perfect, as always, but something has always been missing in the studio version for me; I much prefer to hear it live. I’d give the song itself an A, but if we were discussing personal preference, it’d be in the B to B- range for me.

    Carnival Ride

    So Small

    Song: A
    Single: A

My adoration for this song hasn’t changed a bit since 2007. I love everything about it; the lyrics, vocals, and production are perfect. It’s still one of my favorite songs and singles ever from Carrie.

    All- American Girl

    Song: B
    Single: B

I’ve always loved this song as an album track, but I think it’s an average song and single choice.

    Last Name

    Song: -B
    Single: -B

This is another instance I find myself favoring any live version over the studio recording. I also find the vocal performance to be lacking the same spark the live version has, too. I like the lyrics, though. Overall, though, there are several songs I would’ve loved to see in place of LN, and this has burned on me quite a bit since 2007.

    Just A Dream

    Song: A
    Single: A

Flawless song and single choice; my only complaint is that it was way too underrated during its chart run.

    I Told You So

    Song: C
    Single: B

This song is lovely, but I find the studio performance to be a bit dry. This is yet another song I prefer to hear live over the studio version; I almost always skip it when it comes on. I do think it was a smart single choice, though, and of course it began her fantastic relationship with Randy Travis, too.

    Play On

    Cowboy Casanova

    Song: A
    Single: A

I loved how different this song was for Carrie at the time, and how it felt like a breath of fresh air at radio. Perfect single choice, vocal performance, and production.

    Temporary Home

    Song: +B
    Single: +B

TH has burned on me since 2009, but I think it was a solid single choice, and we got my favorite Carrie video out of it and some amazing live performances.

    Undo It

    Song: +D
    Single: B

I like this song as an album track, but the song itself is nothing more than fun album filler for me. It is a great concert song, although I’m still on the fence about it being released as a single. There were several stronger songs to chose from, but obviously Artista was trying to establish Carrie as a writer during the era, so…

    Mama’s Song

    Song: D
    Single: D

Carrie’s vocal performance and the video are the only thing that prevented me from giving this song a failing grade. Ugh.

    Blown Away

    Good Girl

    Song: +A
    Single: +A

Perfect single choice and vocal performance. The lyrics are lackluster at times, but the performance and production is more than enough to make up for it. Carrie really needed a shot of momentum after MS, and this was the perfect way to usher it in.

    Blown Away

    Song: +A
    Single: +A

Again, there are some lackluster lyrics here, but the perfect, haunting production and vocal kicks it up a notch. Perfect single choice.

    Two Black Cadillacs

    Song: +A
    Single: +A

The best song and single choice of Carrie’s career, IMO. Everything about this song, from the production to the vocal to the video, couldn’t have been more perfect.

    See You Again

    Song: +B
    Single: +B

This has actually been one of my favorites on BA since the release of the album, but I think it was an odd single choice, and there are stronger songs on the album. A great album track, but as a standalone song (especially after 3 flawless singles), this kinda leaves me empty.

WOAH. Mama's Song = F? Why does everyone dislike it so much? I understand that it shouldn't have been a single, but it's a great song and one of my favorites.

Good Girl: A+ (great way to start the new era...so refreshing!)
