An interesting thing to note about these numbers is that only Drake, The Weeknd, Luke Bryan and Dr Dre got these results after Apple Music - everyone else Carrie will fall behind did it prior the sales drop that's come in the last couple of months.

All things considered even if she comes in at 150k, it's very good. If she can get closer to the high projections that's fantastic.

that may be true, but still, it stings,

this article from headline planet is essentially belittling carrie, for having decreasing number of album sales

One thing I learned this weekend (I'm obviously slow to the party) was that Spotify has Carrie's entire cd. No wonder sales had gone down so much. I don't think I totally understood until my niece explained it. She pays a monthly fee and most artists (license?) their cd's to them upon release. What she also told me is that not all artists do that, Taylor doesn't, Carrie did. Something I'm sure all of you knew, I just didn't...since I would never pay for such a service.

I guess I just don't get why people put so much stock into first week sales. Carrie's always been someone who sold well consistently over time, and I'm sure she will in this case too because the album is great.

I would say that while her previous 4 albums all went multi platinum (BA not just yet, but it will any day now), with the current sales climate I was expecting that this one wouldn't. In the end it will likely go Platinum, so I'm not sure why people are disappointed I guess? Let's see how this ends up at the end of the era. First week sales are helpful for #1, and she still has a chance of beating 5sos or getting it next week. Outside of that they're kind of useless anyway, a lot of people sell really well first week and then drop off considerably, that's where I would be more concerned.

In 2012, SITW would've gone 2x Platinum and LTG would've gone Platinum. Nowadays SITW is certified Platinum and LTG is Gold. It's not like Carrie is less popular, she's still holding up well which is a good sign.

Yep, Spotify has 75 million users and Apple Music had about 15 million and still growing. Streaming is the future of music, it's just how it is now. Digital purchases are going to go out of style just like CDs and cassettes before them.

^ Agree! Now that I understand the sales situation a little better, I agree. I do want her to beat that boy band...so I will continue my purchases of additional copies #Storyteller this week and the following week. Christmas stocking gifts, exchange gifts during Christmas, and hostess gifts during the holiday's...perhaps toys for tots (teen gift), cd's for our troops, gift for our mail person, my hairdresser, nail person...perfect gifts for all occasions.

I didn't see it as belittling at all. It was simply stating facts.

And I'm doing something this era that I've NEVER done before, I have Storyteller on constant streaming on Spotify!!! It might not be much but that's roughly 30 album plays/streams per day.

I guess I think that at the end of next week Carrie is going to surprise people. The weather was nice where I live so I think that helps getting people out and into the stores. More people in the stores more chances to sell the cd and there's no way anyone can predict that!!!!

Amazon Prime members can also listen to Storyteller for free online or through the Amazon music app. I bought my Target album Saturday. I may still buy one more this week. I am supposed to bring a $10 gift to a girls' game night Thursday and I'm thinking about doing that, but I don't know if anyone in the group would even want it so it might be a little selfish to do that. There might be a couple in the group that like country music, but I doubt the rest do.

APPLE MUSIC and SPOTIFY users please stream excessively and massively. For Apple users, just DON'T play the one you've purchased on iTunes otherwise it doesn't count.

Track Equivalent Albums (TEA) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (SEA) now contribute to a multi-metric consumption system, with 10 track downloads or 1,500 song streams (respectively) from any one album considered equivalent to one album sale.
All of the major on-demand audio subscription services are considered, including Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play and Xbox Music.

Please spread the message below, thank you! BUY NOW! STREAM NOW!

Been constantly streaming on Spotify and Apple Music. I don't know, it is still complicated to me. I think this new streaming technology is totally ripping off the artists.
But, I will do what I can for Carrie...she is so worth it!!

Sadly, I don't think there's a better way right now to stop music from being available everywhere on the internet. Might as well let people stream the music officially and have it count on the charts, rather than people downloading illegally when they can't find any immediate streams.

Someone needs to come up with a better method to pay the artists according to streams though.
