Idol sales - 5/2/12 (SH is back on the Billboard 200 chart!)

'Idol' album sales: Clarkson, Underwood, more
    By Brian Mansfield, USA TODAY

Not a lot of note going on, sales-wise, for the Idols this week. Kelly Clarkson's still the top-seller, with Stronger. Of course, that'll change next week when Carrie Underwood's first-week numbers for Blown Away come in. Here's a good sign for those first-week numbers: Carrie's Some Hearts jumps back into The Billboard 200 this week, with a week-over-week sales increase of 25%, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

    Idol albums
    Kelly Clarkson, Stronger (10,000, -9%, 766,000) (#41 Billboard 200)
    Scotty McCreery, Clear as Day (6,000, -8%, 1.035 million) (#78 BB200)
    Daughtry, Break the Spell (3,000, +1%, 434,000) (#124 BB200)
    Carrie Underwood, Some Hearts (3,000, +25%, 7.193 million) (#175 BB200)
Carrie Underwood, Play On (2,000, +39%, 2.1 million)

    Casey James, Casey James (2,000, -25%, 33,000)
    Lauren Alaina, Wildflower (2,000, -11%, 274,000)
Carrie Underwood, Carnival Ride (2,000, +26%, 3.257 million)
    Kellie Pickler, 100 Proof (1,000, -19%, 69,000)

Bonus Soundscan numbers for some Idol albums
Kris Allen, "Kris Allen" (330,000 release-to-date)
Kelly Clarkson, "All I Ever Wanted" (944,000)
David Cook, "This Loud Morning" (118,000)
David Cook, "This Quiet Night EP" (4,000)
    Daughtry, "Daughtry" (4.881 million)
Daughtry, "Leave This Town" (1.329 million)
Adam Lambert, "For Your Entertainment" (838,000)

    Idol tracks
Kelly Clarkson, Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) (80,000, -9%, 2.975 million)
Carrie Underwood, Good Girl (50,000, 0 change, 738,000)
Kelly Clarkson, Mr. Know It All (10,000, +5%, 1.454 million)
Scotty McCreery, The Trouble With Girls (8,000, +39%, 676,000)
    Jason Aldean/Kelly Clarkson, Don't You Wanna Stay (7,000, -15%, 2.051 million)

It's amazing that all three of Carries albums are selling better than Kellies brandnew one.

Yay! That's cool that Carrie's album Some Hearts is back in the Billboard 200 chart. Carrie would be pleased if she knew! I'm so happy for her and wish her every success. I hope people are buying Blown Away and helping Carrie achieve great sale numbers, she deserves it.

That's awesome!! Who would've thought a 7 year old album would re-enter. Amazing sales.

On another note, I'm actually surprised Diana DeGarmo's Good Goodbye has sold 13,000. I love the song, and have been a big fan of her since she came in 2nd, but she didn't have much promo, and hasn't had any previous big songs. It's a good song, I'd go check it out.

Whoop! Wow, if that AI performance can do that for her first album, I can't wait to see what it did for BA!!!

Come on, GG, almost to 1 mil....I think it can go platinum in a few weeks after this week is over.

It actually shocks me that Kelly Clarkson's album isn't selling better than it is. Her single has been number 1 for weeks. It seems odd to me that hasn't translated to album sales. The good news for her is that the single is selling extremely well. Album sales in general are much, much lower than they were before the digital revolution. Fortunately Carrie's albums seem to still be selling very well. To me people are really missing out if they just buy the singles. Some of the best songs may never be released as a single. I also think Blow Away flows very well as a total album.

It is a real shame that Kellie Pickler's and Lauren Alaina's albums aren't selling better. I think they both have real talent.

It is sad about Kellie Pickler. She admits she is no Carrie Underwood....her words, and admits she can not sing flawlessly the way she does. She chose a work that she thought country was crying for...old style country. I have heard good things about the album and feel bad that she is not really getting any success. Ironically, with the album being more traditionl country (and from what I hear, she does a goid job with it) from the amount of complaints I hear about not enough traditional country, it should be flying off the shelves. I have heard quite a bit of grumbling about BA not being country....as far as I am concerned, Carrie made the right choice and is singing what she likes. You can not please the public anywsy, at least she knows she is happy with it. Funny how people crab about BA. It tells a story and that is country music. They need to take off their rose colored glasses and remember there is much to life that is not a fairy tale or happily ever after, definitely can relate as a person that grew up with abusr. Sadly, it is still muvh more widespread than people want to admit. I am proud of her for having the guts to sing about tge topic.

kellie really did a nice job on her new album. first time i actually downloaded a few songs of hers. she is a better singer then taylor by far so it is odd she is always overlooked. i guess the field is just full of blonde country singers right now.
