H'wood week full of 'Idol' rejects

This year's "American Idol" might give you a serious case of déjà vu.

Ninth season "Idol" auditioners will look a lot like those from last year's tryouts -- according to a poster on idolforums.com working off a tip from a "reliable source" -- because several of them made it as far as Hollywood Week last year.

Among the repeat auditioners to keep an eye out for when "Idol" returns on Jan. 12:

* Jessica Furney, the glasses-wearing Kansas girl who lives with her elderly grandmother and sang a cover of Janis Joplin's cover of "Cry Baby"

* Angela "A'wun" Martin, the Chicago mom who auditioned so that she could get her daughter, suffering from Retts syndrome, the best care possible
REPEAT OFFENDERS: Frankie Jordan is back. Judges compared her to Amy Winehouse.

* Frankie Jordan, a stay-at-home mom from Hollywood who wowed the judges by singing Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good."

Also allegedly making their way back to "Idol" are Kansas City folkie Margo May, Canadian David Gowryluk, emotive Florida girl Katie Bernard and teen JB Ahfua, who sang a Ruben Studdard song and hoped to help out his struggling family.

The reason for bringing back these audition ringers, speculates one fan, is that it'll give new judge Ellen DeGeneres -- she replaced Paula Abdul -- a chance to get a leg-up on music-related bon mots, by giving her footage of performances that she can study ahead of time.

This isn't the first time that "Idol" hopefuls have subscribed to the "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again" mindset.

Famously, Alexis "Glitter Girl" Cohen -- who died in a hit and run over the summer -- auditioned twice, once for Season 7 and again in Season 8, although she was denied a spot on both occasions.

Other repeat auditioners wind up with more "Idol" success, though.

Chikezie Eze made it all the way to Season 6 Hollywood Week in 2007, but failed to make the Top 40 cut. He auditioned again for Season 7, this time impressing Simon and Company enough to compete and finish in 10th place.

Eze's co-competitor Carly Smithson had a similar story. She audition for Season 5 and made it to Hollywood but wound up being disqualified due to working visa issues. Two years later, she re-auditioned for Season 7, nabbing a spot in the Top 24. Her "Idol" days ended with a Top 6 finish.

Another Season 5 auditioner, Gina Glocksen, was eliminated on the final day of Hollywood week. She popped up again in Season 6 auditions and wound up a ninth place finalist.

Repeat auditioners aren't violating any "Idol" rules. According to registration and audition rules, applicants are only ineligible to participate if they made it to the semi-final round in a previous season.
