Simon Cowell Says Goodbye: American Idol 9 Will Be His Last Season

Simon Cowell Says Goodbye: American Idol 9 Will Be His Last Season

Well, there goes the show. Simon Cowell announced on his brother's weekly podcast, that he is quitting American Idol after season 9. It's clear that Simon wants out so he can bring X Factor over to America and not have to worry about Idol, since he'll be making ****loads more money producing X Factor (if it's successful). Simon always said he'd leave the show if Paula left, so it looks like the producers are helping American Idol implode on itself.

X Factor will most likely just replace Idol. No biggie. He'll probably judge that show with Paula.

So true. AI will not be as interesting without Simon. The producers will really have to bring something spectacular to the show to hold our interest. Whatever they do, Simon leaving is a huge loss.

wow...can't believe this...I thought losing Paula was bad enough...but now Simon...the show is over imo...personally, no one has come out of Idol that will ever be as successful as Kelly, Carrie, or Daughtry...I think the show has found the talent it was supposed to find, and that's it
I'll give anyone a shot once. I close my eyes and kiss that frog. Each time finding, the more boys I meet, the more I love my dog

I wouldn't be surprised if Fox dropped Idol in favor of X Factor. I think starting in 2010 Idol's licensing rate is supposed to up to $35 million a year and its ratings are slipping. They might opt just to pick up the cheaper X Factor, even if the ratings are lower than Idol.

Idol's run is over and they should just end it while it's still on top. I will admit that it's sad to see the end of such a huge pop culture and television phenomenon, but I would prefer it to go out on top rather than drag it in the mud. Maybe Fuller and Cowell can reach some sort of agreement, seeing how Fuller has alot of connections (such as iTunes) that can benefit both of them.

I think Simon gets much to much credit. He seems to be more about making a name for himself that providing anything of substance that the kids can work with. The show may indeed end when he leaves, but so be it. It certainly wasn't improving with him there.

Love him or hate him, Simon is the the only judge whose comments the contestants were really interested in hearing.

I always wanted to hear what Simon had to say. I hope AI enjoys their Swan Song with Ellen in Paula's place, because I'm about 99.9% sure this is IT. No Simon? No AI. JMO.

    I'm shocked.
IT makes sense though to walk away while you are on top.
It also tells me that this season must be pretty low-bar for Simon to see no more potential in it for the future.
Weather Simon was what held it together or not, a show this big can not hold itself together with such sweeping changes. He is abandoning the ship. Smart move.
IT was a fun ride but you must admit, the show was not getting better. It was geting worse.
The introduction of "stock players" as contestants wa the beginning of the end.
No offense to K.Pickler but there is no way that out of 100,000 singers she was in the top 20.
You knew you were being manipulated. Carries year wa the beginning of that. But then it just got way to predictable. They chose their stars and then made people believe that it was the public.
That kind of deception can't go on forever.
