Thread: Syracuse Review: Carrie Continues to Amaze!

hey guys. I am sorry that this won't be as long as my normal reviews as my stupid camera froze up when I got there (maybe due to the cold temps? not sure) and I was afraid to bring my camcorder in after problems with it in the past. So for the first time ever, I won't have photos or vids... sorry! I feel guilty for some reason for letting you guys down. lol

The good part about not taking pictures or vids, is that you can actually focus on the show and enjoy it without the pressure of getting the perfect pictures. So I really got to listen to carrie and enjoy every moment of it. I promise to make it up to everyone next time. lol

I did not win a meet n greet so I have no good stories there...I didn't get to go to the buses as we were late... Relatives came up from Kentucky at the last minute and we had to take them to an early dinner before the show, so we just made it for LBT's set. Sorry I didn't get to meet Jeff and the gang-- I would have loved to have met up at the buses to see everyone if we got there a little earlier.

LBT was fantastic! I really hope someone got some videos of them! They not only sound great with their rich harmonies, but they seem so cool and nice. I am so happy Carrie got to tour with them.

I did however get to see all the video screens and lighting for the first time ever-- since my seats were no on the floor. Usually I have floor seats and ignore all the video screens because they are hard to see from the floor-- plus you are focused solely on Carrie. This time, I got to enjoy the awards montage, the AAG screen, etc- and all the special effects- so that was nice.

Carrie came out all in black and sort of looked like she was going for a Johnny Cash effect--- which was very cool. The place was sold out or close to it I believe, as I asked the ticket person to see if I could bump up to better seats, and they said it was pretty much sold out except singles on the floor, and 2 together way up high. So Davilas will be happy--- her careful monitoring of ticket sales was accurate.

Anyway- her voice was stellar as usual-- but it seems even richer and more powerful this time. Perhaps because the last 2 times I saw her, she was sick (NYC and Albany)-- but her vocals on IKYW, Wasted and especially JAD were breathtaking and so clear they could cut glass, I swear.

I am very happy that she highlights JAD later in the set now. It got lost in the shuffle before, too early in the set. Now, people know the song, and it is much more effective at this stage in the show. I thought it was amazing.

I thought the crowd was pretty good.. maybe not as good as some of you guys have seen, but better then some venues. There were some older folks sitting but they did seem to enjoy the show. I think alot of people just like to sit and relax, not dance and scream like the teens, etc. But everyone was up and singing along to Paradise City and BHC, of course. She rocked those as always. It was a big crowd and they were very into it, IMO.

The highlight of the show for me, of course, was AAG. Wow--- that little girl is the next Mariah Carey- I swear! And Carrie implied that too. lol She knew every word and was fighting Carrie for the mike! lol The crowd went wild-- and I swear it really connects with the audience. This is the first time I saw her do this live, with a child, and I cried. She was a little blonde pixie and looked like she could be Carrie's future little girl.

She was really chatty tonight- kind of like she was 2 years ago at the State Fair- it was endearing. Somehow she started talking about the Okra Fest and the cleanup crew or something-- rather strange. lol She said the usual stuff about missing home, etc- and mentioned the CMA's. She joked that she may have to stick to the teleprompter while Brad tells the funny jokes. lol

Anyway- overall it was fantastic, as usual. I really like the new stage and awards montage-- it keeps people interested during the costume changes.

Crowd reaction: People around me never saw Carrie before, and they could not believe how crystal clear she sounds live. They were awestruck. Also-they had no idea that she has a new album out. This is the second time I heard people comment on their lack of knowledge of her new album... odd, right? Anyway-- I told them about it and they promised to pick up a copy tuesday at walmart to get the Christmas songs. So there is one new album sold anyway.

She seems 10000x more confident then she did even as recently as February, when I saw her last. She just seems really happy and sure of herself--- like she is enjoying this and not scared anymore.She has come a long long way.. and the reviews show it. I think she deserves an EOTY nomination at the ACMs for sure.
