Smile Konocti - High Energy Carrie (Rev, Pics and videos)

This is a 4 pager so will take me a while to post. (same as one posted on the fan club) Since this is so long thought I would make that clear in case you have already read that one.

PRE-CONCERT PREP AND ROAD TRIP As with most Carrie concerts there is always a little pre-concert preparation. I made a couple of signs and 5 window decals to put my car. Pictures below.

Click the image to open in full size.

Also had one decal with Carrie’s picture that said Carrie fans on Board, and Proud to be a CU fan club member. My windows are tinted so they didn’t show up very good on the outside but we could see them from the inside. Even though I had not heard back from the venue about donating the glow bracelets I loaded the box of 900 in the car to see if they would accept them. Since this was an outdoor concert, we thought it would really brighten up the night to hand out complimentary ones at the concert but when I checked with the venue they said we couldn’t because they sell them to raise money for a Childs Dream Weekend. Loaded my bag and locked the house and I WAS ON THE ROAD AGAIN to pick up my concert buddy Michelle. I got to her place around 10:40 and then we stopped and got some snacks and some Vitamin Water and Pepsi for the 2 hours drive to Konocti. The trip went smoothly and we pulled into the resort at around 1:00 or so. Here is the entrance to the Resort and the concert venue.

We decided to take the road that went down the hill and it took us to some apartment like buildings with a parking area. I decided to park in a vacant spot across the street from them since there weren’t many cars there so I could clean my windows and put the decals on. As I was washing the windows we heard some voices and Michelle said “There’s Matt”. She also saw Keith, Jamie and a couple band members. She ease dropped while I cleaned the windows. We didn’t want them to think we were stalking them (ha ha) so after I put the decals on we decided we should probably mosey on down the road. I had exchanged cell numbers with Heather so I called to see what Thelma and Louise were up to. They were lounging by the pool so we decided to go to Lakeport (14 miles away) and check into our hotel. Just past the swimming pool at the hotel there was a little dock and a nice view of Clearlake.

After we rested a little we decided to take a little trip to the Indian casino about 4 or so miles away to get something to drink. We put a few coins in (Michelle won and I lost), got our free drinks and headed back to the hotel to get ready for the concert. I was going to wear some denim Capri’s but I guess I ate too much on vacation because they fit a little snug. I tried doing squats to stretch them out but when I did the knee ripped out. I guess that worn look meant they really were worn. ha ha! That meant a change in attire so I put some long jeans and a white tank top with a beach scene outlines in black that Michelle’s Mom Milly had bought for me in Cancun. I took my pink FC party shirt and a denim jacket just in case it got chilly.

Page 2 - PRE-CONCERT BBQ: We left the hotel at 4:45 to go back to Konocti because we had tickets to the Pre-concert BBQ, which had started at 5:00. The concert was advertised as a 7 PM start time and we didn’t know how well organized the BBQ was so we wanted to make sure we had plenty of time before the show. Even though we were early we still had to park on the lot on the hill past the main parking lot. (not a good sign for getting out of there after the concert. As we were walking down the hill I looked at my shirt and the front where the beach scene was had all of a sudden turned to pastel yellow and orange. I thought here I haven’t even eaten yet and my shirt is already discolored. Turns out it was a magic shirt and the colors came out when the sun hit it.

We got in line and as we were starting through the line I hear Heather’s voice . She and Michelle were already there and sitting having some drinks to try and cool off so she asked us to come sit with them. Thelma and Louise always have some entertaining stories so we had a few laughs over dinner. We had left our tickets in the car so we had to go back and get them before we could enter the venue.

PRE-CONCERT : After we found our seats I decided to gp over to the booth that was selling the glow products to raise money for the kids charity to see if they wanted the glow sticks. I asked for the man in charge and explained that I had sent an e-mail about donating the glow bracelets after they said we couldn’t hand them out but no one had called me back. He said he would gladly take them so he walked out to the parking lot and carried them back to the booth. He was very appreciative and wanted to give me something but I told him I would just buy it instead. He did give me 5 raffle tickets for a chance to win and overnight stay at the resort and front row seats to Keith Urban. Unfortunately I forgot to check to see if I won before I left. With the luck I had at the casino I doubt my ticket was pulled.

There was a large group in the row in front of us and in our row who were from Novato. These young girls, probably 12 or 13 were right in front of us. They were wearing their NOVATO LOVES CARRIE shirts which they had made. I had made two signs with Ace’s picture on it that said: ACE 4 Greatest American Dog so I asked them if they would like to have them to hold up during the concert and they said yes! They were really excited to see Carrie.

There was a group of young ladies on a bachelorette party week-end who wore T-Shirts with their friends name on it that Said LAST FLING.

It was pretty much a full house as you can see by this picture.

Page 3 - CONCERT: After what seems like eons and many announcements by a guy that looked like Wild Bill from the Wild West show (now talk about dating yourself). One thing that was really special during the pre-concert announcements was the recognition of a soldier who had just returned from Iraq and was recognized by the pentagon for his heroism and goodwill. There was an extended standing ovation from the crowd which I’m sure must have meant a great deal to him There had been no opening act advertised but around 7:30 or so Fisher Stevenson and his 3 piece band came on stage. As Todd already mentioned in his review he was from Big Machine Records and mentioned Taylor several times, but did thank Carrie for the opportunity to open for her. He was very excited that his wife and girls were at the show.

It was still light when at around 8:30 the sound of rolling thunder began but people couldn’t really see the video opening on the monitor. Those young gals in front of me sprung to their feet like they had been shot out of a cannon and started screaming. I love watching the youngsters at this concert. Carrie was in a great mood and sounded even more fantastic than at my other concerts I‘ve been to this year.. She was more animated than I have seen her and very chatty and cute during the concert. She had the audience in the palm of her hand. As you can see by this picture she looked fantastic in her black mini dress with silver threads and those huge heels. Her hair looks cute shorter.

Click the image to open in full size.

She cut out some stuff from her regular tour set like the SH medley, CD, ITYS and there was no Voices Carry. Some highlights of the evening for me.

Before Carrie started TMBIM she said I have a confession to make, “I’m in Love”. He’s the perfect guy and then said “However it is not with a human, but my Dog”, to which she got a big laugh. When Carrie started singing TMBIM the girls I had given the ACE signs to were jumping up and down holding their signs and towards the end Carrie saw it smiled and acknowledged it. They were so excited! During the Prince Charming part of the song this young man in a section behind me stood up and held a sign that said DATE? When Carrie acknowledged him he said if you have doubts ask the crowd. At that point a whole group of people held up YES signs.

Click the image to open in full size.

Carrie laughed and said “Boy, you really came prepared” and mentioned something about that would have to be a long distance relationship.

You already heard in other reviews about the bug swallowing incident during IAICAM. She started the song and then stopped, said “I think I just Swallowed a Bug”. She choked a little, laughed a little, said “That was Gross”, , and then went right on hitting every note. I see someone got it on video. She mentioned also that there was someone from her hometown in the audience. She walked over to her left to acknowledge them. She sang California in the place of Checotah at the end which resulted in a huge cheer from the crowd.

Before DFTRM of course she sat on the stool as she usually does, they brought her guitar and she mentioned. I love wearing dresses, but it is hard to always sit like a lady so I cheated and wore shorts and she lifted her short dress to show her black shorts. She also mentioned we all knew how she got her start (she used the G word) and that you all were a GINORMOUS part of that so Thank You. She said they love what they do but do miss their families and said she hasn’t been home since Christmas but that her family comes to Nashville to visit her.

I Know You Won’t was just mesmerizing live and the crowd was in a trance until she hit those big notes and they let her know their appreciation with loud cheers. When she finished the crowd roared with approval as they knew they had just witnessed a vocal masterpiece. I thought the guy that sat next to me was going to be a jerk as he got there after the concert had already started and was a little miffed that I was standing by his seat. After Carrie finished that song I said Wow that was fantastic. To quote him "She is the best voice in America and she has the looks to go along with it". He turned out to be a nice guy and a big fan. A great lesson that our first impressions are not always on target. I got video of IKYW:

IknowYouWontKonocti72608.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

There was a gentleman with his little 2 or 3 year old daughter sitting on his shoulders right up by the stage and she was just looking up at Carrie with adoration. Carrie looked down at her and had this sweet smile on her face.

Carrie was particularly animated during PC. Video Here Sorry it is sort of shaky and I lost her a couple of times but those young gals in front of me were particularly active during this song and blocked my view a few times.

Post Concert: This was a high energy concert on Carrie's part and the crowds as well. You could feel the disappointment in the air when the encore was over. People were just kind of lingering. Since Heather and Michelle were in the 2nd row we talked with them a little and then we headed over to the merchandise booth. We said our goodbyes to them and then Thelma and Louise were off on the next leg of their adventure. I bought the white shirt with the blue eyes on it for Hailey and asked Amy if she would give the Thank You card from Hailey to Carrie. She very kindly said she would. I told her we had missed her at Dixon last year and that she missed out on some cookies folks had made her. She said she couldn't make that trip and had heard about the cookies.

The parking lot was a mess of cars all just sitting still. Lots of Carrie music playing on the radio so we just joined in with some of our own music of Carrie's special performances like the Grammy's and some of her pre-Idol stuff. After what seemed like an eternity cars finally started to move and we got out of the lot. On our way home we stopped at the casino to get a snack. They were only serving hamburgers and hot dogs and the cashier said they had a hot dog and chips special for $1.99. We really couldn't understand the waitress as she didn't speak English very well so we both ordered the $1.99 hot dog special. Well obviously she didn't understand us any better than we understood her because when she brought us our plate it was a whole piece of Kielbasa sausage on a big bun with fries (it would have fed a family of 4). We just busted out into laughter as we couldn't believe our eyes. To say the least we did not eat much of it because we probably would have been up all night sick. To top it off when she brought the bill they charged us $5.99 instead of $1.99. Michelle won enough money to pay for the hotel.

We got to bed about 2:30 and thought we would fall right to sleep only we had some noisy ones above us who were still in the party mood. I got very little sleep and finally got up at around 9 or so to shower and pack up for the trip home. We stopped for breakfast and then headed back towards Konocti and took pictures along the way. Stopped at the casino for a half hour (Michelle won again). We drove into Konocti and took some more pictures and headed on down the road. We took the scenic route which took a little longer but made it safely home. I dropped Michelle off at her apartment and got to my house at around 4:00 yesterday and was a little tired so took a short nap.

My overall assessment as I reflect back on Carrie's first concert at Konocti a little more than two years ago is "You Have Come A Long Way Carrie". She has become a dynamite performer and she is so comfortable on stage. Her banter is just priceless and she just charms that audience - if they weren't really a fan when they came they were hooked when they left. Her voice is unmatched in my opinion and just gets better with age. The concerts end so quickly and they leave you wanting more. It will be a long wait until the next show in November. Thank you Carrie for bringing so much joy to people's lives. You are a wonderful gift to the world.

Thanks, I enjoyed reading all of the reviews. I was a bit frustrated at the concert having lost my 5th consecutive M&G lottery, making me 0 for 5 at meeting Carrie. But I do have an audio recording of the entire show.

I'm not sure if this was posted but I was just listening back to the concert so I thought I'd add the official set list:

1. Flat on the Floor
2. Wasted
3. Get Out of This Town
4. The More Boys I Meet
5. Just a Dream
6. Jesus, Take the Wheel
7. I Know You Won't
8. I Ain't In Checotah Anymore
9. Last Name
10. Don't Forget to Remember Me
11. Twisted
12. All American Girl
13. So Small
14. Paradise City
15. Before He Cheats

I'm working on mastering the audio, it's a bit bassy so I'm trying to lower that a bit. I will post the entire concert audio as soon as I'm finished in the media section.

Oh PS - I just saw the picture you took of the guy that held the sign up for a date (which was too funny by the way). Had I known what he looked like earlier, I would have went up to him and said if she doesn't take the date, I will!! Hello handsome -- and a smart one too - haha!
