Anne Hathaway 'Spent A Week In Shock' Over Ex-Boyfriend's Arrest:
Anne Hathaway's longtime boyfriend was arrested on charges of fraud and money laundering in June, and in her first interview since, Anne recalls what it was like to suddenly come face to face with the truth about him.
"As soon as I found out about the arrest, I had to get on a plane to Mexico to do a press tour for 'Get Smart.' And then I spent a week in shock at a friend's house. And then I had to go back and do more press, and I haven't stopped since," Hathaway says in the October edition of 'W' magazine.
Hathaway and Raffaello Follieri dated for close to four years and even lived together until the arrest, but the actress says she didn't know much about his business dealings. She moved out of the New York apartment she shared with Follieri, which was searched by investigators, upon receiving the news.
"I have to find a place to live," she tells the magazine. "It's a situation where the rug was pulled out from under me all of a sudden, but just as suddenly my friends threw another rug back under me."
"I've been shown such kindness. Not everyone gets that. A lot of people go through tough times alone," says Hathaway. "One said, 'Go stay at my house.' And Steve Carell stepped up for me during an interview (for 'Get Smart') when someone asked a question. He said, 'At some point you're going to have to talk about this time in your life. You don't have to do it this week. I'll take care of anything that comes your way.'"
"Not everyone gets that," thankful that she received the support she needed. "A lot of people go through tough times alone."
Meanwhile, Follieri pleaded guilty on Wednesday to fourteen counts of fraud and money laundering, and admitted to lying about his links to the Vatican as part of a scheme in which he obtained more than $2 million.
But instead of investing the money in real estate projects, as promised, Follieri used it to buy exotic vacations, private jets, expensive clothes, meals and pay the rent on his a $37,000-a-month Manhattan apartment. He now faces up to five years and three months in prison.
