Kanye West To Perform At MTV VMAs, Ends His 'Boycott':
Well, there goes the boycott. A year after vowing never to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards again, it's been announced hip-hop star Kanye West will close out the show's 25th annual ceremony.
Last year, West threw a temper tantrum in front of media backstage as the awards show was ending, after he had been shut out of all five categories he was nominated in.
He was also upset that his performance was relegated to a small stage in the Las Vegas venue, instead of in front of the cameras: "So why do you have me do 'Stronger' in a suite, but you end the show with Justin (Timberlake)?," he said. "I really made the song 'Stronger,' you know, for stadiums."
He even accused MTV of exploiting Britney Spears claiming they were "just trying to get ratings", and "they knew she wasn't ready, and they exploited her."
So while its a bit of a surprise, we're sure West was more than happy to drop his brief 'boycott' and take the closing spot he wanted last year.
And while Britney Spears is scheduled to open the awards show, the exact nature of her appearance remains a mystery: "She will be doing something so mind-bending, it'll probably make you want to start families with each other in a random, possibly Mormon, way," says British comedian Russell Brand, who is hosting this year's VMAs.
Brand also joked that there would be "a lot of virginity and lesbianism, let me tell you that, going on at the show" with Katy Perry ('I Kissed a Girl') set to perform Madonna's 'Like A Virgin'.
The news reporters are slow these days, his "boycott" has been over for a long time. He spoke with MTV months ago and everything was cleared up back then. He has a new song dropping on monday which from previews sounds amazing so he will probably perform that, I'm looking forward to it.
That was a damn good performance, the rest of the show was only decent though:

Kanye West
No surprise that the outspoken Chicago rapper was the only artist to challenge himself at the MTV VMAs. West debuted a new song, “Love Lockdown,” driven by a booming bass, a brief, jazzy piano line and a smattering of drums. It’s a slow build and one of West’s most subtle, dark songs to date. West sings rather than raps and declares, “I ain’t loving you / The way I wanted to.” If this song is a preview of his forthcoming album, plenty good is in store, as it’s a stunner. Grade: A
lol I knew that "boycott" wouldnt last longer then 5 seconds. Just because they didnt ask him to open the show and didnt win an award, he thought he could BOYCOT the thing?
I didnt even know he was going to perform until I saw him performing. I was like, are you serious? I thought he threw a temper tantrum and said he would never return to the VMA's again?
Again, the "boycott" was over a month after the awards last year, it was never an issue.
lol it doesnt matter when it was over...the point is he actually stated he would boycot it because he didnt win and didnt get to open the show. Thats just pathetic. I mean, really?
Vibe.com : "'Love Lockdown' is Kanye's most important song since 'Jesus Walks'. Oh, also he doesn't rap a bar. It's all autotuned vocals here. And, frankly, it's well-done."
Los Angeles Times : "It’s a slow build and one of West’s most subtle, dark songs to date. West sings rather than raps and declares, 'I ain’t loving you / The way I wanted to.' If this song is a preview of his forthcoming album, plenty good is in store, as it’s a stunner. Grade: A"
Consequence of Sound : "Complete with a neon heart, West did the whole thing alone and between the beat and the chorus’ hook, it sounds pretty hot. One thing that’s sure to be on every fan’s mind: Is this follow up to 2007’s Graduation going to feel rushed? My thoughts: I don’t think so."
The Fader : "'Love Lockdown,' from his sudden new 4th quarter album, just popped up on MTV Jr and we gotta say we are into it. Who knows what it will ultimately sound like, but if Kanye can turn around a single that is not only a clear departure from his entire catalogue, but also clearly influenced by the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, then god bless him."

Kanye never used the word boycott, that was how the press put it. He simply said after he lost an award (which he clearly should have won) that he wasn't going back, it was knee-jerk reaction and everything was cleared up.
Do you expect him to be happy about losing to something that wasn't as good? I would have kicked up as well. At least he had the nerve to say what was on his mind instead of say it behind closed doors like everyone else does.
