That is so cool hopefully Carrie will do more writing in her third album
News : Headlines : Carrie Underwood Looks Toward New Album : Great American Country
Dec. 18, 2008 — With Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride Tour completed this year, she’s beginning to focus on the third album of her career.
She goes into it with the knowledge that the audience is interested in seeing what she’s able to create. Carrie’s debut album, Some Hearts, has been certified for shipments of 7 million copies. Her sophomore project, Carnival Ride, is double-platinum.
"I'm a lot more comfortable with the process," she told the Associated Press. "I have two good albums under my belt, and now I can focus on what I really want to do and say."
Carrie wrote three of the hits from Carnival Ride — "So Small," "All-American Girl" and "Last Name" — a development she considers a bonus to her career.
"I'm getting more comfortable with my writing abilities," she said. "I know that they're there now. In the beginning I was like 'I'll try it, and if I can't I won't mess with it again.' But I'm not one of those people that has to write every song because there are so many people out there who are great writers. But it is important to at least try."
Look for Carrie to perform Jan. 7 on the People’s Choice Awards, where she has three nominations: Favorite Female Singer; Favorite Country Song, for "Last Name"; and Favorite Star Under 35. She'll also appear on this weekend's edition of Opry Live on GAC with Martina McBride and Julianne Hough. The episode airs at 9 p.m. ET.
3/18/09 - All I can say about tonight is that for the first time I really want Carrie's music to continue progressing more to the traditional side of country music and I think it will. I don't care if it doesn't sell as well or all go #1, it's beautiful with Carrie's voice. Tonight I saw her as a Country legend for the first time.

am i the only one who finds this statement interesting? does this indicate that she didnt get to do what she really wanted for the previous 2 albums???"I'm a lot more comfortable with the process," she told the Associated Press. May you always have

I find that interesting too. That is a quote that you can make a lot out of. It could be she wasn't happy with getting to pick more of the songs that she wanted on CR, maybe she is going to be more hands on the the third album and be part of producing it.
Jeff, I am with you. It is a very interesting statement for her to make.
hmmm, good point, Jeff!! Sure makes ya wonder, doesn't it?!?!
I am really excited to see what Carrie has in store for us on #3!! IMO it seems hard to beat what she has already done, but I know this young lady has proved to go above and beyond anyone's expectations, so I know we are in for a real treat!!!
Thanks so much for posting the article, Chris!!!
its an interesting quote i think she means that now she can be more relax, and write what she wants, she doesnt have to prove her self to people anymore, and she is feeling more free in this album
My understanding with that statement is now Carrie can concentrate on an album that is important to her "Artistically" rather than "commercially "successful !!! Just like the Beatles "Please Please Me " album (1963) compared to "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" (June 1967). !!!
In short, Carrie will be more creative musically and artistically !!
I interpreted it as Carrie saying she put pressure on herself to pick some songs that she thought other people would like to make sure the album would sell. She was still doing the picking but she put pressure on herself to think about what other people wanted to hear because it was the sophomore album. Now she's saying since the second album sold great too, she can focus more on what she wants to do and say and not worry as much about what other people might think.
I love the fact the Carrie has become a lot more vocal about things this year. She has EARNED that right to say with she wants both professionally and personally.
Fuller, 19, Arista, etc.. did give Carrie a wonderful opportunity to get her carrer started, but Carrie has been the one to take that chance and just run with it to levels that Fuller, etc.. never could have dreamed of getting to.
If Carrie wants to have a lot more say in what song sings, what songs go on the albums or whatever else she wants a say in, she has more than earned that right.
Fuller and AI have given the same opportunity to every AI winner and other contestants, but when it comes down to it the person on the stage/in the recording studio who is behind the mike is what makes things work.
She sure has. But in terms of how this plays out I don't think we're going to end up with a situation where Carrie releases an album her label doesn't like. I don't think she's suddenly going to stop listening to other people's input. I can see her having more confidence in her instincts and standing up for them more and more each time. Carrie's said that it's natural you'll have more involvement with each album because you grow and learn more.
IMO Carrie's one of those people who's grown gradually. Even though she's usually got a surprise or two up her sleeve she doesn't usually do sudden shifts in direction. That's why I wouldn't read too much into any one thing she says. I'm sure she will have even more input on her 3rd album than her 2nd just like she had more input on her 2nd than her 1st album. It's bound to happen because she's more mature and knows more of who she wants to be. But at the same time I don't think Carrie's suddenly going to decide she needs to be an artiste and only listen to herself. Not that I wouldn't be interested if she did decide that
IMO Carrie knows she's not done learning from other people but a lot of people (probably including us fans) will be surprised when she shows us some of what she has already learned.
awesome
! cant wait!
that is great!
Thank you for my set Court! Saw And Met The Cast Of Wicked On 10/07/06 And 11/26/06!I Met Carrie On March 22nd!!!! Saw Carrie At Her Fan Club Party In Nashville On 6/03/08! Met Carrie AGAIN October 6th!
im glad my question started off a nice little dicussion. Mirasa and Debbie, i'm with you both. it's part of a natural progression for Carrie to be more and more involved in her subsequent albums. SH was an album to capitalize on idol and show she can sell, and CR was made to show she can sell without idol and to provide more material for her tour. so, perhaps in that sense, she had other factors to consider, other than her own personal taste, in the making of the 2 albums.
imo, she doesnt have to prove that much more to anyone else... and hopefully she feels that way too. she's recognized as the standard bearer in country music. so, she's more free to do whatever she would like.
with regards to Carrie working with others, she's shown that she's a great team player and willing learner. she's shown the ability to take constructive criticism to improve her live shows. this is always a good sign.
im really looking forward to see what album #3 brings.
May you always have
enough happiness to keep you sweet;
enough trials to keep you strong;
enough success to keep you eager;
enough faith to give you courage;
and enough determination to make each day a good day!"
