INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana State Fair is a cacophony of sights, smells, tastes and sounds.
With the fair running through Aug. 17, you will see the most prized pigs in the state and the crazy lights of the midway. You will smell the frying Snickers bars, frying Twinkies and many other foods once thought unfry-able -- and those prized pigs.
Your ears will be treated even more this year. In terms of star power, the 2008 schedule of State Fair concerts is one of the best in recent history. Between the six headlining live music acts, they have sold more than 130 million albums. A third are "American Idol" alumni and another third have been teen idol royalty.
So grab that fried Snickers bar and lemon shake-up and get ready to rock out. Ticket prices include the fair entrance fee.
Jessica Simpson, 7:30 tonight, $25 to $50. Whether she's pitching acne medication on infommercials or getting Tony Romo in hot water with Dallas Cowboy fans, the beautiful Simpson is a constant presence in the media and in the public eye. You almost forget the actress and former reality TV star is a singer. Simpson broke into the mainstream as a teenager in the late 1990s and was the third pop musketeer behind Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Today, Simpson has gone to a country sound and will release her first country album, "Do You Know," on Sept. 9. Simpson's latest headlines have included jeers at the July 19 Country Thunder Festival in Randall, Wis., and getting criticism for her "Real Girls Eat Meat" T-shirt, believed to be a stab at Romo's friend Carrie Underwood, who is a vegetarian.
Carrie Underwood, 7:30 p.m. Friday, $40.50 to $75.50. And look who's playing the fair the day after Simpson. Underwood is one of "American Idol's" biggest success stories. One of the few singers who used the show as a springboard into country music instead of pop, R&B or rock, Underwood has been going strong since winning the fourth season of "American Idol." Underwood is still touring in support of "Carnival Ride," which yielded the hits "So Small," "All-American Girl" and "Last Name." If there ever was a real beef between Underwood and Simpson, they should settle up at the Indiana State Fair.
Daughtry, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, $39.50 to $59.50. While he only came in fourth place on "American Idol's" fifth season, rocker Chris Daughtry opened the reality show up to rockers including Greater Lafayette's own Amanda Overmyer. Now with his band simply called Daughtry, the singer's career has already surpassed some of the "American Idol" winners.
Backstreet Boys, 6:30 p.m. Sunday, $25 to $50. Women in their 20s will get their first dose of nostalgia because Backstreet's back, well, most of them anyway. The first 1990s group to help start the boy band craze that really only lasted about five years, Backstreet Boys are touring again in support of the group's comeback album, "Unbreakable," but without Kevin Richardson. He parted ways with Backstreet in 2006.
Corbin Bleu, 7 p.m. Monday, free with admission to fair and voucher from voice - have your say - Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation. When he's not counting his royalty checks from "High School Musical," Bleu, who plays best friend Chad in the popular Disney musicals, is trying his hand at being a pop star. He performed in Indianapolis in 2007 as part of the NextFest with Aly & AJ and Drake Bell.
Sugarland, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, $30 to $50. Perhaps the most popular country duo today, Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush -- better known as Sugarland -- are enjoying the release of their third album, "Love on the Inside." It produced the hit single "All I Want to Do" so far. Sugarland played the 2006 Newton County Fair.

jessica and carrie? is that even a competition? plus, the Romo thing is so history, but the press (or it might be true) is making it seem like jessica is still hung up on carrie's past relationship with him. =/
either way, carrie is going to kick some major booty (and maybe them boots off jessica too). i hope people going is going to have a blast, too!!

Good news guys-- I read an article in an indiana paper that said jessica barely drew 4.000 fans- and that was with the buy one get one free ticket scam. lol
Carrie may sell well over 10,000 or more before she is done, per davilas.
Also- papa joe was escorted by 10 state police body guards. lol What the hell is up with that? No one cares about him and most don't know what he looks like. Why would he need body guards? lol

I give Jessica this she has a great PR team in just about every article they manage to link her with carrie.Unforunatly for her she starting to lose her buzz. That suggestive video is about all she has going for her.No offence Jessica fans but there really is no comparison!!!!
