'American Idol': Simon & Randy pick faves, ridicule Ryan's Botox
The Dish Rag talked with "American Idol" judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson at the Details magazine Mavericks party at a private Beverly Hills estate last night.
Here's what the bantering boys had to say about the show, the songs, who will win and — ouch — about the Botox job on Details cover boy Ryan Seacrest.
DR: You've both mentioned that you think a guy is going to win this season. Why?
Randy: I think the boys are stronger and more interesting than the girls this year.
Simon: Yeah, I agree.
Randy: It's different every year. It just depends what comes out
DR: What are the surprises that you have in store?
Randy: Ryan’s gonna streak!
Simon: It can all change at the end. Don’t rule out this girl Brooke [White].
Randy: Yeah. she’s very strong. Very consistent.
DR: What do you genuinely love about Ryan? And what gets under your skin?
Simon: Ego.
Randy: Yeah, ego.
Simon: Selfishness. Ego
Randy: Just ego.
DR: That Aussie, Michael Johns — what are his chances of winning?
Simon: Out of 100? Two. Because he’s not choosing the right songs and I’ve told him that.
Randy: He still hasn’t sung the right song on the show yet.
DR: So what are your picks, your favorites?
Simon: Top three: David Archuleta. Jason Castro. Brooke or Ramiele [Malubay].
DR: What is it about each one of them that makes them stand out?
Simon: Popularity.
Randy: Popularity and they also rule in consistency. The talent is always there.
Simon: But the best singer is the Irish girl.
Randy: Yeah, Carly [Smithson] is the best singer
Simon: But she’s not the most popular.
DR: What do you think being a Maverick means?
Simon: I don’t know cause I’m not. We’re just here because we’re invited.
DR: Did either one of you ever think Ryan would eventually become a Maverick?
Simon: No.
Randy: We knew he was a cowboy
Simon: He’s someone destined to be in the shadow. I've always believed that.
Randy: Yeah. Way back. He plays a very small part.
DR: I know he jabs you, so this is your turn?
Simon: Well, apparently he paid to go on the cover!
Randy: And he wore Steve’s shirt.
DR: Did America make the right decision in sending home Amanda [Overmyer]?
Simon: Yeah, yeah. She wasn’t gonna win
Randy: She had her time.
DR: Did Ryan ever jab you a bit for the Botox comment?
Simon: Ryan criticizing me for having Botox is a little bit hypocritical!
Randy: Have you seen the cover? Have you seen the cover?
Simon: Ask him to drink a glass of water and watch what happens. It literally comes out of his head!
DR: Is it correct that all the contestants are living together this time around?
Simon: Are they? Haven’t got a clue
Randy: Are they?
DR: Do you know if they get along?
Simon: Probably not.
Randy: We have no idea.
Simon: Contestants shouldn’t get on. They won’t get on because it’s a competition. And I don’t believe they should be friends, and I don’t think they are.
DR: It's been said this is the more talented, better-looking lot of contestants. What do you think?
Simon: Look, you can’t say that these people are more talented than Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Chris Daughtry or Carrie Underwood, because they haven’t proved it yet. As a group of people there is a lot of talent, and it’s a good competition, but we've got a long way to go.

go go go go CARRIE!!!
I have to stay strong.I should not give up.I have to believe in myself because I WANT TO BE ON TOP.I WANT TO BE #1.
Yay Carrie.
i really like simon.
With friendship it doesn't matter how long
you've known each other, or how many fights
you got into. what matters is who said
"i'll be there for you"
and who proved it.
The others that he quoted I can't say for sure yet, but as for Carrie, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that they aren't even close.
Funny about the Jason Castro comment. I think that the guy is only modestly talented. In any real singing contest, he'd be blown away by nearly everyone who has a voice. I guess that they think he's intriguing because of the dreads, and the, "ha, ha, duh, I'm sooo stupid," act, or who knows, maybe it's not an act. I believe the second choice is probably more true.
I'd say that it's probably more a choice between David A, David, C. or Brooke for the win, but to me, Brooke would make the better idol. She's the only one that I've ever seen that has a little of that Carrie magnetism in her. She's just so darned sweet.

im likin' Mr. Simon...
I liked Simon when he was mean now he has even gotten softer in his critiques...not as witty or ruthless like he used to be in the earlier seasons where he would chop them a new one. And lately, Simon doesn't seem to make sense in his comments. One day he will say one thing and then the next day say something else. Like he did w/ the country girl on this season. One week he told her she needed to stick w/ country basically and then the next week said she shouldn't have sung that song in a country style. Like Ryan said, "so you gave her the wrong advice" or something like that.
Ramielle in Top 3? Errr... hope not
Completely agree. Something about Brooke totally reminds me of Carrie. Though her vocals aren't powerful or as strong... she does have a unique voice. And more importantly to succeed in the competition, she has a very likeable personality. Just like Carrie.
David A was good singing "Imagine", but after that, I feel that they've been overrating his performance that it's getting ridiculous. David C... meh. Not my cup of tea. I wish Michael could do better though, he's been disappointing so far...
simon has always been a carrie fan![]()

There is no Underwood, Clarkson or Daughtry on this season's show.
Carrie is the ultimate idol and I don't think anyone can live up to her jmo
I can't believe that people think Brooke is even in the same league with Carrie.
I'm sorry but she is a sweet girl who is also a flake.
And between her and Castro I don't remember two more mediocre singers getting this far (and yes, i mean including Senjia)
I don't know how you can hear them sing and think that they can do what Carrie can do with a song like So Small. The song would distroy them.
Anyway, I'm glad there was a Carrie mention (however small), but I'm alittle tired of her playing second-fiddle to Kelly/Fantasia/Chris.
Oh and I forgot, don't even get me started on the "country" girl this season.
Comparisons to Carrie only make Carrie look bad.
Wow he choose Ramiele, I didnt see that coming...My favorite this year is Brooke, she's amazing, Let It Be was incredible, but she's not the best singer, she has that thing that you look her playing her guitar or the piano and she looks like an artist. Carly is the best singer but I dont think people like her that much. Archuleta sings very well but I dont know again a 17 old year Idol? mmm...
Cool the Carrie mention, he always brings her in when is necessary.
That mention of Fantasia was IMO not neccessary. Since when is Fantasia in the same league of Carrie, Kelly or Chris?![]()
