ok i know i am goin to get yelled at for saying this lol
but i think it would do carrie a lot of good to do some faith hill type songs
yes faith hill did have many pop songs but still were country and she was still viewed as a country artist and did so well on mainstream and country
so why cant carrie?
i know she said country is where she wants to be but she can still do that with her songs but in a different way
i think carrie already has a slight pop element to her songs, but i personally would never want her to be flat out pop. i mean i respect the fact that she knows what she wants to sound like and that she didn't want to make her songs more pop sounding just to please other people (like taylor did).
^yea she does have a little pop to them but i mean like a few songs on a album that are more pop i dont see as a problem
bc its not like she is goin pop but at the same time its more appealing to a different audience

also, you cant just 'get' a Faith Hill type song. there was one song i heard on the radio before who sang a song that sounded like it would be recorded by Faith, but that was just one. and if you mean Breathe, its not easy to just walk across a song like that either. Faith's songs are nice, but it is her style of singing more than anything that makes it a Faith Hill type song. unless you just mean pop type songs. but yeah i guess it would be nice to have one or two songs on the album. shes only on her second album, and shes working for longevity, so shes not gonna come out with a ton of songs shes not sure people will even like.
Im glad carrie has a little bit of pop to her songs. If she were straight out Country I dunno if id be into her music. I mean i like Kellie Pickler, Kristy but not Taylor lol, and they are country....so i dunno.
I agree with you completely.
on Some Hearts, there was a bit more of pop elements to her songs than on Carnival Ride, and I think thats why Some Hearts was so successful. Carrie is a majorly successful recording artist, period, without any pop in her songs, but if she really wanted to make huge historical impacts on the music industry, I think she should do on her next album, a bit more like Some Hearts, definitely have the songs like Carnival Ride, lyricly, but maybe take out the banjo and fiddle, etc. on a few songs. I still think if Carrie would've made SWG a bit more country than it was, she could've released it and made it a HUGE HIT. I don't think Carrie should go completely pop, but i think Sometimes You Leave is one of her best songs ever, and it's straight up pop/R&B... I think album #3 will probably have a bit more of a pop element to it, as Some Hearts did, because they'll look at the success of both albums, compare, and go from there, as all producers do with all artists while making an album after a debut. Carrie will be successful no matter what elements she has to her songs, but maybe if she had a Rock/Pop/Country element to all her songs.. it'd be more appealing to mainstream audiences, I mean look at Shania Twain, Carrie IS the modern day Shania Twain... I think when she makes her comeback, she will be Carrie's main competiton.. and we will have a tough time battling Shania, because IMO, she's the queen of country music... Shania is someone i'd like to see carrie model her career after... but i will love carrie no matter what elements she has with her songs, but I think it'd be very cool if she did a 2-disc edition of an album like Shania did several years back... i'd buy as mony copies as i had room for. lol. because carrie's voice is so overpowering, i don't think it matters what genre she does, the lyrics will shine through the music...
I probably love the pop songs on SH more than the country ones, ironically as I'm mostly a country fan.... BUT... as much as she is their golden girl, I think it was absolutely necessary to steer herself in the more country (albeit country/pop on many) direction with Carnival Ride for the sake of her career in the country music industry. As much as maybe another million or two in sales here or there if she continued to split her music up like on SH might have been a nice ego boost, a bit more money, and more mainstream appreciation for us fans to boast about, accolades such as the Opry membership and respect within the community she wants to be in are more important to her, I'd imagine.

Well, we all have differing opinions - non-country fans want more poppish songs, but country fans like me like the country songs best and want less of songs like Lessons Learned, Twisted, SH, and WOTW and even SWG/IJCLAL, although I do like those fairly well. It's not that they are pop-sounding so much as they are Diane Warren/Celine Dion sounding pop which I stopped liking after I was like 18. Songs like SYL and IKYW are better to me, because they have a little more of a current edge or R&B/bluesy feel to them and aren't so saccharine. I do like Carrie's country music or her country/rock stuff the best - GOOTT, FOTF, Wasted, LN, BHC, DFTRM, YWFT, etc. I have the demo CD that Carrie recorded when she was 18 (Carrie Underwood) and I think she sounded great on those more "typical" country songs like "Cold Day in July". Carrie just seems to get more emotion through on the countrier songs. Carrie knows what she wants to do and where she wants to be and she just needs to do what pleases her. I would feel bad for her if she tried to take all of our advice, because the girl would be incredibly confused as every fan seems to want something different from her and likes her for a different reason, which is also part of Carrie's appeal - she has a little something for everyone, but we, as fans, can't expect her to change the rest of who she is to match that little piece that draws us to her.

I personnaly want Carrie to release a lovesong, and a song that relates to her as a person/ artist.
The only two lovesongs (about heartbreak or death) were Wasted & JAD.
The other lovesongs on SH were to poppy, just as with CR. ( twisted, you wont find this)
Besides I told you so, wich is a brilliant & hearfelt vocal and sadly it was Randy Travis his song cause otherwise it coulve been huge for Carrie I think ( maybe even Song of the year nomination) Cause it has that traditional country feel to it, but with Carrie's vocals it couldve scored mainstream as well I think.
and many people could relate to it.
Im not suprised that I see in reviews that the lovesongs are loved the most like IKYW ( not only vocally ) but you can feel Carrie's emotion in it.
Ive seen many positive comments about Starts with Goodbye also.
Ive said this in another thread and someone replied & said, that Carrie wont release to many lovesongs because she isnt lovey dovey ( because she hates chick flicks) I dont really see the connection but that can be me ofcourse ..
I dont think that Carrie isnt romantic in some way or has her heartbroken and I really hope that for the next album we maybe get to see that side of Carrie more ,what she has gone trough. Maybe a song about loneliness or longing for someone? I mean she's human right, so she must go trough all this stuff like any other human does.
Thats why I also think this album wasnt such a success as SH because all
The singles are kinda alike in a way and maybe the mainstream audience tought they heard it already. (if this makes sense) and maybe thats why it hasnt sold as much as SH did.
JTTW/So Small
DFTRM/AAG
BHC/LAST name
WASTED/JAD
eventough I really love all her singles, im really curious to see what her next album is gonna be like and what themes she is gonna sing about.
I really feel like she must come with something different to debut her next album , not an inspirational song like JTTW or so small.
Im not saying it hasnt worked, or that it wasnt successfull but I just think the general audience could want something different for the next album.
Sometimes you Leave, imo also one of her best songs emotionally!
The demoversion (wich I cant find anymore ..?) was outstanding ,very simple and with Carrie's vocals it couldve sored.
But ofcourse it had to be overproduced , make it to much pop and it couldnt be released let alone ever used in a concert ..
If that song was made a bit more countrypop instead of pure pop/r&b, it couldve been amazing like the song I told you so.
Im not saying that Carrie for her next album has to do what SH was, half country, half pop.
But maybe more songs that have a mixture of all those elements
Country/pop/rock
For instance the band Rascall Flats, youre not gonna tell me that their music is straight up country right?
songs like Everyday & what hurts the most ( my fav's btw) I would love if Carrie could do some songs like that ..
Sorry for my long rambling, and I know im gonna prob piss off some folks here .. its just an opinion and that doesnt mean that Im a lesser fan of Carrie in any way. just to make that clear
Whatever Carrie releases im gonna buy it anyway, cause I just plain & simple love her voice Cant wait for the christmas album

That would be me.
I didn't say I thought she wasn't lovey-dovey (because she hates chick flicks).
I stated that Carrie herself said she's not lovey-dovey. Shealso said she doesn't like chick flicks. These are things that she has said, not me. She's pretty much saying herself that she's not super-romantic.
Carrie gets to choose the songs that are on her albums. So far she has chosen not to include a hardcore love song. I think that speaks volumes for the type of songs she'd prefer to sing. She may sing a few over time. I just don't expect very many, and think if she does a love song it will probably be more country than pop.
Nuthin' wrong with wanting to hear Carrie sing pop songs. If she sticks to her methods the third album will probably include a little something for everyone.

Farah, you are not alone in wishing that Carrie would sing more love songs, although I am one that prefers the more country love songs like ITYS. I think you don't have to have been in a serious relationship to sing about love or longing for it. I know that for me - when I was single was when I was always listening to the most love songs or songs about being alone and looking for someone. There are a LOT of girls out there that are in Carrie's age range that are still single - people don't get married as young anymore, and a lot of those women like songs about women's power, guys are scum, or wishing mr. right would come along. I hope that someday Carrie finds it in herself to sing more love songs and songs that are a little more relatable for her age group. I don't think we are bad Carrie fans for wishing this - I'm like you in that I love her voice and hearing her sing makes every day better, but I can't always relate to the inspirational/message type song lyrics. BHC and LN are fun - they are what a lot of girls wish they could let go and do and are a fun "fantasy". Wasted, while it is a little bit of a message song, has a great tempo, is country-sounding, and talks about leaving a bad relationship and drinking - things that are very relatable in country music. AAG is pretty relatable to most country fans. Anyway, I'm starting to ramble now, so I'll stop before I make someone mad. I love Carrie, she is amazing, and whatever she chooses to sing about and however she chooses to sing it, I will support her.

i don't think carrie should change her sound and what she wants to be like just for some more cd sales and just to appeal to all the people who like pop. she's been successful thus far with her cd sales and whatnot without changing what she wants to be. and i personally think if she were to go more pop it'd kinda seem like she was a sell out, just doing it for the sales. and she doesn't have to do that because she is already incredibly popular. there are plenty of people who like pop and also like carrie, and she doesn't even have to change her sound to get them to like her.
she's said on a number of occasions that she wants to be more contemporary country than anything else and i don't think she's ever gonna turn around and decide to be pop instead. and she's already worked so hard to prove herself and gain respect in the country industry, why would she change now? what just for more sales? she doesn't need to change who she is and what she likes to get more sales.

I don't know about anyone else, but I still can't get over the fact that she didn't record Not Tonight for CR!! That is a GREAT song, and with Carrie singing it I can picture it as a hit single...I downloaded it the other day and I can't get it out of my head, but it's so disappointing to listen to it without Carrie's voice!
