I honestly don't usually go hating on artists because it's a hard job and I do have a lot of worry for her trying to mix school and the road (I'm a mom, what can I say?)...but Taylor's arrogance really rubs me the wrong way. And I just don't think she deserves the noms for AOTY and FVOTY...because her album is very samey and well, her vocals left much to be desired.

I have to admit I saw Taylor do that on CMT Insider today at her "Prom" themed #1 party and it does bother me some. I compare this to Carrie, who not only doesn't seem to like to talk about her accomplishments but almost looks embarrassed when others list her accomplishments. I do wish that Taylor would learn a little bit about humility from Carrie.

The main problem I have w/ TS is her vocals plain and simple. I don't mind that she is successful or doing well on the charts, etc b/c her music is popular and she seems to know how to entertain, get the audience/crowd into her performance. I just wish her talent (meaning her live vocals) would back up those accomplishments is all. If she sounded strong and great live and sounded close to her recorded songs, then I for sure wouldn't be on TS so much. Hopefully she can give me one GREAT performance that just wows or blows me away and makes me think that girl's got talent and then I would let up on her alot.

I too don't care for her bragging and thinking she is all great when she really isn't all that and there are far more talented people out there than her. So if she would be a little more humble and work more on her vocals I would give her alot more of my respect. But I do think we should try to focus more on Carrie than TS but it's hard not to discuss about other artists due to this upcoming award show. People are going to discuss on who they like to win and who they don't want to win. It's only human nature.

But let's get back to Carrie. I'm glad Carrie is going to be able to sing her own song and do a tribute and also get to present. I feel more confident now that Carrie will win FVOTY than I was before. I'm excited to hear the tribute song she will be singing. I'm sure it will be great. LN should be a fun and rocking performance too.

I'm also surprised that Martina and Reba or Tim and Faith aren't singing. Seems like this year will be mostly full of younger performers or middle aged performers w/ the exception of Garth Brooks.

No, I'm not going to the dark side. I never said that I thought Taylor was arrogant. And yes, it may be due to being excited. But I think it would be in her own interest to tone it down a bit. But everyone has flaws. Noone is perfect. And just because I think that Taylor could improve in this area, that doesn't affect my opinion about her music or the awards. Taylor is talented. I think Taylor deserves her nominations just as must as anyone else. I think Taylor deserves to win the TNFV award. I have already stated that I think Miranda should win AOTY over Taylor simply because I think Miranda's album is better. And I think Carrie deserves TFV over Taylor (to the surprise of noone).

And don't worry, I like Kellie.

Ooh, really ??? I am glad I missed it, otherwise I would have a high blood pressure seeing that. I do hope that Taylor would learn to be more humble later on when she gets older, because in this industry (show business) many artist will come and go, and only the ones who are modest, humble , and easy to work with will have a long career. I do hope that Taylor go college too.

I've seen many artists come and go in my life time. Carrie Underwood has captured my heart because of her humble personality and NOT due to her beautiful voice--her beautiful voice and her great singing quality are secondary to me !!!

"It’s the old versus the new in the 43rd Annual ACM Awards.

This doesn’t mean that it’s the traditionalists versus the pop stars, which would make for an interesting showdown. Rather, it’s what happens to awards shows when eligibility criteria are too liberal and not enough good music has been released in the past year: mediocre but current work competes with good work that many have forgotten, and that makes the awards very hard to handicap.

This reality is most evident in the Album of the Year category. Fifth Gear, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates are all mediocre to good albums released since the last ACM Awards, while If You’re Going Through Hell and Taylor Swift were eligible for nomination at the 42nd Annual ACM Awards. So why weren’t those albums nominated the last time around, when it would have made more chronological sense?

The answer is rather an indictment of the awards show process and helps to explain why it’s so difficult to prognosticate. A good album is a good album, regardless of whether it’s the 42nd or the 43rd ACM Awards, but a bestselling album at the 43rd ACM Awards was not necessarily bestselling at the 42nd. The extra year has made a difference only in the number of hit singles that each album has spawned and the number of copies that they have sold, and thus I can only conclude that in this category especially, the Academy hasn’t made a serious attempt to assess musical merit; they’ve simply noticed two albums that have had massive radio success and inferred that they must be great.

Thus, I can’t get my head around the Album category. The Brad Paisley and Miranda Lambert efforts stand heads and shoulders above the rest in terms of quality (and, if the 2007 critics’ lists are any indication, Lambert’s would certainly win easily among cross-genre voters), and I have to think that some voters have “forgotten” Taylor Swift’s and Rodney Atkins’ projects, but I can’t get past the fact that they were nominated a year late.

There’s a similar problem in the Vocal Event of the Year category. If this show were held six months earlier, I think that “Find Out Who Your Friends Are” would win in a walk. But this song, along with “What You Give Away” and “’Til We Ain’t Strangers Anymore” have been more or less absent from radio playlists for some time, so I expect that “Shiftwork,” easily the worst of the nominees, will win due to timeliness and star power. Still, I can’t rule out the possibility that voters will remember the more deserving nominees.

The Top New Male Vocalist and Top New Vocal Group or Duo categories are equally anachronistic. In one you have Jack Ingram, a Texas veteran whose brief mainstream radio run may be over, competiting against two true newcomers, while in the other, a duo that has already broken up (The Wreckers) is competiting against a group (Lady Antebellum) that hadn’t even released its debut album at the time that the nominations came out. In this case, the ACM’s glut of new artists categories is more culpable than the idiosyncracies of the awards show process, but it makes the categories rather bizarre nonetheless.

All of this makes this year’s awards difficult to predict, but the editors of The 9513 have done our best.

In the Entertainer of the Year category, the editors disagree about whether the introduction of fan voting will finally give Rascal Flatts the trophy that they so covet, but everyone except Jim thinks the Brad Paisley will follow up on his CMA win with the ACM Top Male Vocalist Award and everyone expects that Carrie Underwood will fend off Taylor Swift to defend her Top Female Vocalist Award. The Song of the Year and Single of the Year categories cause some disagreement: we think that “Don’t Blink” and “Stay” are the top contenders, but we aren’t sure who will win what.

The only way to find out is to tune into the 43rd Annual ACM Awards, Sunday at 7 p.m. central on CBS. While you’re watching, visit The 9513 for our live blog and join in the discussion. Insightful commentary, witty asides and engaging reader discussion is promised.

Feel free to add your own predictions below; any commenters who score better than the best The 9513 editor will be recognized in our post-ACM Awards wrap-up.

For more The 9513 ACM Awards Coverage, be sure to read my article about who should have been nominated and view the full list of nominees."

They then pick Carrie unanimously (4/4) to win Female.

A few years from now at the ACM or the CMA awards, the FVOTY award will be called the "Carrie Underwood Award," just like the Vocal Duo Award is called the "Brooks & Dunn Award" because Garth Brooks said that Carrie will continue to win the FVOTY award for years to come.

thank you. I am glad to hear you say that because sometimes I feel like I am the only one that sees that.

In like 5 years or so-- I might actually like some of taylor's songs when she grows up....but right now, I just can't stomach them...though Teardrops had some merit. I think she is a talented songwriter for her age though-- just not deserving of as much hype as she is getting.

What I love about carrie is her humililty and the fact that she never brags. Even if people are secretly a little full of themselves-- at least hide it better.

I don't see Kenny chesney ever bragging-- and he has alot to brag about. I don't see keith urban, martina, trisha yearwood, or even faith bragging. Not even shania bragged. I respect that about them alot.

Miranda doesn't brag either- though she does sometimes play the "I am edgy" card a bit too much. However- that is not bragging- she is just trying to separate herself from the pack...can't blame her for that.

People like Danielle Peck and Ashley monroe, ashton shepard, rissi palmer, etc-- even katrina elam-- are all very talented and virtually ignored. That bugs me....because they can all sing taylor under the table. I just don't get why taylor is glorified and they are ignored.

weird thing-- is that I kind of liked miley cyrus until she got too big for her britches. lol She seems to be going the taylor route lately-- getting a big cocky from all the attention. Ironically-- they are BFF's. lol coincidence?

I never thought I would say this--- but all this is making me really like kellie pickler...and I was never much of a fan before. But compared to taylor- kellie is a very good singer, and you don't see her bragging. I can see why carrie likes her. (kellie)

exactly. I just can't get past the arrogance.

If she were a little less full of herself--- maybe I wouldn't be so hard on her. SHe just rubs me the wrong way too--- and it all started 2 years ago when she did a radio interview and live acoustic set on my radio station. This was before she met kellie pickler and was pretty "green" in her interview skills...so she showed more of her true colors. today-- she would never bash american idol and knows better....She intentionally praises carrie in interviews because she wants to win over carrie fans to buy her albums-- so she knows she has to kiss carrie's butt publicly anyway. who Anyway. She was bragging then, saying how she didn't go to american idol to take the fast route to fame-- but how she "worked hard paying dues knocking on doors" with her demo cd...(come to find out her rich daddy helped pay for her record deal). anyway-- she was bragging how she wrote all her own songs and played guitar-- whereas others just sing big power notes, etc....and that is all. Teh dj knew she was talking about carrie and put her in her place....saying that carrie plays guitar and piano and is a great artist, etc. Taylor did not know this-- and acted surprised. So she was clearly referring to carrie and did nto try to deny it. First impressions are usually right- and that was my first impression of her. Plus her live acoustic vocals were dreadful.

maybe someday I can learn to respect her if she stops bragging and realizes she is not all that- but I don't think I will ever like her vocals.
