After watching the Opry Saturday I could not help thinking ,Where are all the dues paying crowd that were never invited or considered for the honor our Carrie just received.
It may just be me but I think that is poetic justice. It seems some others are a little short in paying their dues.
I love that.
Speaking of due, now that Carrie has become an OPRY member, I think Carrie is starting to pay her dues, OPRY dues that is (if there is an OPRY dues), just like a union dues--therefore, Carrie is paying her dues .
Don't worry, I really doubt that she will because she has crossed that line: "Remixing Her Songs " to pop --this is , in my opinion , a "Cardinal Sin" in country music !!!
I believe you are correct. Remixing is a sign of fence sitting and should significantly reduce anyone's chances at membership to the opry.

I'm suprised that Lee Greenwood, Kenny Rogers, Rascal Flatts, Wynonna, Lee Ann Womack, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Lonestar, Alabama, Dixie Chicks, and Shania Twain aren't members.
Like I said, it is about making a commitment to the Opry like Carrie has. Artists only get a token payment for appearing on the Opry (I think it it is the area of a couple hundred dollars). So appearing on the Opry regularly would involve loss of considerable potential tour revenue. And many artists are not willing to make that sacrifice.
As to the names you mentioned, I don't believe that Shania has ever performed at the Opry. I think that the last appearance by Rascal Flatts was in Nov 2005 when they appeared on the same show that Carrie did. Most top artists are not willing to make the commitment when they are on top because they can make more money by adding tour dates. For most artists that are invited to join, the invitation comes while they are still climbing the ladder or later in their career, which things have fallen off some, because their touring schedule is lighter or they are making less from individual tour dates. Carrie is one of the rare exception to this.
Doesn't the artist still have to pay their own band too?
Good question. Some bands are under contract with special rates for performing at non-concert events. It would be interesting to know if Carrie's band is compensated for her Opry appearances. It might be why she signed up with the vitamin water company, it helps with all the residuals. But, I really don't know. Again, good question.
