Another week, another analysis... this time for Week 46 (Again, I'm still waiting for m&m's full YTD chart, but I can already compute for the Carrie-RF-TS comparison from the released SoundScan numbers. I'll also be adding the Eagles and Carnival Ride):
Wk 46
Some Hearts- 1,373,691
Taylor Swift - 1,290,228
Eagles - 1,267,698
Still Feels Good - 1,095,376
Carnival Ride - 931,631
Carrie's Some Hearts vs. Taylor Swift's Taylor Swift
- 83,463 albums separate Taylor Swift and Some Hearts
- TS would have to outsell SH by an average of 13,911 albums a week for 6 weeks to catch up
- Last week, TS outsold SH by 49,356 albums
- Conclusion: It will overtake SH, especially as we can expect TS to continue to sell better than SH over the holidays. TS vs. CR may be a different story, as seen below.
Taylor Swift vs. Carnival Ride
- 358,597 albums separate Taylor Swift and Carnival Ride
- CR would have to outsell TS by an average of 59,767 albums a week for 6 weeks to catch up
- Last week, CR outsold TS by 48,308 albums
- Conclusion: If CR sells as well as SH did over its first holiday buying season, it can easily climb over TS. We'll have to wait and see.
Carrie's Some Hearts vs. Rascal Flatts' Still Feels Good
- 278,315 albums separate Still Feels Good and Some Hearts
- SFG would have to outsell SH by an average of 46,386 albums a week for 6 weeks to catch up
- Last week, SFG only outsold SH by 37,356 albums
- Conclusion: Everything can change with the holidays sales, but right now, SH looks safe to retain its dominant position.
Still Feels Good vs. Carnival Ride
- 163,745 albums separate Still Feels Good and Carnival Ride
- CR would have to outsell SFG by an average of 27,291 albums a week for 6 weeks to catch up
- Last week, CR outsold SFG by 60,308 albums
- Conclusion: CR is very much on track to overtake SFG by year's end.
Some Hearts vs. Eagles' Long Road Out of Eden
- Only 105,993 albums separate SH and LROOE
- Last week, LROOE outsold SH by 181,921 albums.
- Conclusion: With the Eagles' re-release of a deluxe version LROOE to take advantage of Black Friday sales and beyond, it will definitely overtake SH, maybe in as early as next week.
Long Road Out of Eden vs. Carnival Ride
- 336,067 albums separate LROOE and CR
- Last week, LROOE outsold CR by 84,257 albums
- With LROOE having a re-release in addition to being the newer album and being well, the Eagles, it seems safe to conclude that it will stay ahead of CR at year's end.

I just read it again and I have no idea what I said, lol. I need to cut my nails.
I am asking if SH or CR might be on top at year end. How was that?
Right now, it looks like the Eagles will take the top spot at year-end. Right now, the order for year-end top 5 looks like this:
Eagles' Long Road Out of Eden Taylor Swift / Carnival Ride Carnival Ride / Taylor Swift Some Hearts Still Feels Good
(Let It Go might sneak in. After all, it is still currently ahead of SFG [and CR])
See how I'm emphasizing "right now." I'm hoping we get mind-blowing numbers again for CR over Thanksgiving and especially, Christmas and leave she-who-shall-not-be-named in the dust. Nothing but dust in the shadows... gone by morning light *sing with me!*
Thanks for the analysis. I like to keep track of this. The Eagles are bothering me more each day, lol. I wonder if the Eagles' "softmore" album will sell well.

Well, I was certainly hoping that Carrie would end the 2007 calendar year on top, whether it was with Some Hearts or Carnival Ride, but after reading Desi's analysis, I guess it isn't looking too good. No matter what happens - I know that Carnival Ride is selling very well and hopefully in a year or two, it will be waaaay ahead of the Eagles!
