SS (+10 spins, +0.094 million AIs) moves up to #10 as Kenny Chesney's NWNM drops out of the top 10. But Kenny's DB (+81 spins, +0.732 million AIs) continues to close. Sugarland's EA (-7 spins, +0.039 million AIs) holds steady behind SS. Garth Brooks' MTAM (-63 spins, -0.197 million AIs) remains at #8. Near the top, it looks like Reba/Kelly's BOY (-59 spins, -0.179 million AIs) is coming down.

On AC, BHC (+8 spins, +0.106 million AIs) remains at #6 and ISBY (spins unchanged, +0.067 million AIs) remains at #43.

There is only 6 weeks left until Carrie's new album comes out. The song-jam in the Top-10 is heavy. Basically ~7 of the songs above SS are gaining AIs at a greater rate than SS and Kenny will probably enter that group within the next week. That means around 8 songs ahead of SS in the Top-10 contending for #1 with SS bringing up the rear. If there is a "grand plan" in this by Carrie's label, it might be to have SS wait out the field and eventually rise to the top after all these songs start to fade. In order for that strategy to succeed, SS will have to continue to creep up in AIs and hang in there for some significant number of weeks. I guess I don't understand why SS just doesn't steamroll the competition (like BHC did) and take over #1 by force of popularity?

I really see SS getting a bunch of spins by the end of September. It really looks like they are gradualy building SS for the top. It will all come down to timing and who radio favors at the time. It also comes down to the fans on asking radio to play their favorite artist and song. I believe Carrie will be in the top 5 in 2 to 3 weeks and that is when all the real drama and fun begins.

How Kenny will fit in all of this is still a mystery and of course, what will Garth play in all of this is unknown.

I only think this makes Carrie a bigger and stronger artist in the eyes of many outside her fanbase, if she climbs the charts and reaches #1 with all the big hitters there. If this all happens around the time her album is released, will then make it even more of an item people will want to buy to find out what all the hoopla is about.

So what you are saying is SS is meandering up the charts slow and steady like a cow lazily strolling through the meadow?

The research and callout sure seems to be trending very positive for SS. We (and the label) want SS peaking at the top of the charts in about 6 or 7 weeks from now. If you take a look at the names on the chart now that may be competition for SS for the top spot in 6 weeks there are not that many. Here is the fun part where the speculation kicks in.

TMT will be headed down after a multi-week run at #1. TAMP & BOY are heading down now. POTHWB may get to the top but with B&D new album coming 10/2 the push for this song will be over in 6 weeks and this will be heading down as well. LMIYC is not one of Toby's best and not the style his fans have come to love. I do not think Toby will keep Carrie from the top spot. Online has a good chance to get to the top before SS but with Carrie and Brad on the same label and SS being the first single from CR, Online will not be the song to keep SS from #1. AMFS has been on the chart 32 weeks already and no offense to Luke Bryan and his fans but he will not keep Carrie from #1.

MTAM may compete for #1 again but because of the burn factor and the massive airplay this has already received I think SS will win a longevity battle here. IYRT has a good chance to get to #1. This seems to be a "by popular demand song". This one bears watching. Sugarland & Dierks seem to be peaking now and won't be a factor. That leaves Kenny with DB. I expect to see this song slow up soon. I think the label would like a longer chart run for this than NWNM. I think this song may be the one to knock SS from the top spot.

So that brings us to SS. Carrie and this song are a slam dunk, mortal lock for at least top 3 on the charts. However, I believe this song will get to numero uno! Carrie's label will put their full weight behind this song and they haven't failed Carrie yet. There will be a Carrie blitz of promotion on TV and radio 6 weeks from now that will drive Vinman bonkers trying to cap everything! Carrie will be everywhere. Country music wants to see Carrie succeed almost as much as we do if that is possible. Keep the faith!

So Vogan, it seems that you think that SS will climb slowly until it gets to the top, and with no strong competition behind it, stay for several weeks? That would be a very nice scene, indeed
Go CARRIE !!!

If you followed vogan's sales forecast in the actual soundscan sales of "Some Hearts" album, you will not have doubt in your mind that his forecast on "So Small" will become true!!! I BELIEVE...

Mark my word. "So Small" will be a HUGE HUGE song!!!

I expect to see the spins start to pick up soon and some real progress made. These past two weeks have been treading water and thats ok for now but at some point the pace will have to pick up for this song and it will. The video should hit in another week and that may be the beginning of the assault on the top spot. The real big final push will come when Carrie is all over radio and TV singing this song and doing interviews promoting the new album.
