LADY A GETS ANOTHER WEEK![]()
Cash Money/Universal Motown’s Lil Wayne Rock Album Is Top Debut
February 3, 2010
In a week that should be full of sales spikes from the best-watched Grammy show in six years, Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum should return to the top of the HITS album chart next week after scoring 485k in sales in a chart-topping debut. That’s based on one-day sales reports from those retailers who have not resorted to selling discs from the trunk of their car.
Cash Money/Universal Motown’s Lil Wayne long-awaited rock album, Rebirth, hit yesterday, and looks on track for between 140-150k in first-week sales as he prepares to be imprisoned for a year on gun possession charges. Needless to say, his last album, 2008’s Tha Carter III debuted with one million sales in its first week. He appears on the cover of the current issue of Rolling Stone.
Hollywood’s Nick Jonas & the Administration will debut between 80-85k for their debut, Who I Am, with a deluxe edition featuring videos on sale exclusively at Target and iTunes.
Rob Zombie’s Hellbilly Deluxe II, the sequel to his 1998 album, and first for Loud & Proud/Roadrunner, should sell in the 35-40k range. The album’s subtitle is Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls and the Systematic Dehumanization of Cool.
The market was up 11% vs. last week, flat against the same week last year and now down 5% year to date.
You may now start preparing a cake with a file inside to send to Weezy.

Can't wait to see the Top Ten prediction on Friday. Hope Carrie sees a nice spike from the sale on iTunes and the Grammys!
"Thank you for that ‘Captain Obvious’ sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the ‘right’ notes as well."-Kelly Clarkson to Scott Borchetta about American Idol artistsThanks so much Danielle!
Good to see Lady A's topping for another week!
Not hating but Lil Wayne's 'rock' album is horrible. It's just noise.
YOUR SUPER BOWL WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: Lady Antebellum will hold on to the #1 spot for a second week with a total that may approach 200k, while Grammy winners and performers (Lady A among them) will dominate the leader board next week, as the Grammy spike once again takes effect. Taylor Swift, whose Fearless won Album of the Year, should finish the week with an increase of 85-90%. While this is less than previous Album of the Year winners, it should be noted that Fearless has already sold 5.5m copies. We’ll give you some percentage increases on specific albums benefiting from the Grammy spike as soon as our numbers-crunching elves work them out on the office abacus. In the meantimer, here are the projections:

Do you think the Superbowl appearance will help her sales too? I know millions and millions of people watch that, but do the artists who perform the national anthem usually see a sales boost?

2x Reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year: Carrie Underwood!
Dec18 + Dec19
hopefully 1 % of the viewers buy PO after the superbowl...haha...just kidding...1 % means 1 million..haha
Lady A is pulling in some serious numbers. Good for them.
Wow Fearless has sold 5.5 million in this day and age? That's really impressive. It doesn't look to slow any time soon either. 6X platinum is very possible, and 7x isn't out of the question. Though I'd like 7x platinum to be exclusive to Some Hearts and the Nickelback album as of late.
Cool to see PO getting a spike!I don't think HDD factored in the itunes sales, which are clearly helping as PO is in the top 5 for all genre albums.
That is not as much of an increase for Tayor as I expected considering she won Album of the year. The article said her increase is lower then other previous winners. I guess people were not that impressed. lol
Gaga's album will be selling more than the AOTY winner. Has Gaga been outselling Swif in the previous weeks?
I know it's a different time, but when Norah Jones won AOTY with Come Away With Me in 2003, her album sold 10M copies in that year eventually, when it took her 6 months upon initial release just to get to platinum status.
And her quote after sweeping the Big 4 awards was still one of the best:
"I felt like I went to somebody else's birthday party and I ate all their cake. Without anybody else getting a piece. That's how I felt."
^ You can't really look at it that way. For Taylor to have the kind of increase that the album which one the grammy last year had, she's sell more than lady A.
Last year's album didn't have the best sales (unlike Taylor) so when it won the grammy, it was bound to have a rebound since lots of people who hadn't heard of the album now know about it.
With Taylor, you are either living under a rock or you simply don't want to buy her album. Everyone knows about it by now. She was already selling considerably well on weekly basis. So basically, her sales spike of 90% is nearly doubling her sales - which is impressive on its own. If she were to have the kind of sales that last year's winners had, she'd sell over Lady A.
^I see your point but I believe she would have sold alot more if her performance was on key. lol Either way, I am happy for Carrie to see an increase.
Is this a Carrie thread or a TS thread? Good to see Carrie back in the top 15.
