Idol Sales From USA Today (10/15)

Steep sales drops for J-Hud, Pickler

It was tough going for last week's two debuting Idols in their second weeks on the Billboard album chart. Jennifer's first album sold 63,000, down 71% from her first week, to total 217,000. A sluggish overall sales week mitigated her potential chart drop; she fell just two notches, from No. 2 to No. 4.

Meanwhile, Kellie's second album plunged more drastically, from 9 to 34, selling 16,000, a 63% drop, for a two-week total of 59,000. The prospect of a second-album slide (something only Kelly has really been able to avoid) looms.

Last week's Billboard chart was rerun subsequent to my posting the Idol chart numbers, so the "last week" numbers I'm about to cite for Carrie, Daughtry and Jordin differ from the ones I posted last week, sliding down two or three places. This week's are official, if you're keeping score.

Carrie's Carnival Ride climbs two places, 64-62 (instead of staying even), but sales were down 11% to slightly more than 8,000, for a total of 2.37 million.

Daughtry drops 82-85, selling in the mid-6,000s, down 10%, for a total of 4.25 million.

And Jordin climbs 112-109, despite dropping 7% to 5,000 for a total of 932,000.

Off-chart Idols were also mostly down. The figures follow directly.

Carrie's Some Hearts dropped to 4,800 from 5,400, for a total of 6.56 million.

Bucky bucks the trend, selling 2,000, up from 1,800, to reach 372,000, just a whisker behind his season-mate Katharine.

Kristy Lee sold 1,700, down from 2,500, for a three-week total of 18,000.

Kellie's first album sold 900, down from 1,200, for a total of 790,000.

Kelly's Breakaway stayed at 900 for a total of 6.02 milion. My December dropped from 400 to 300 for a total of 776,000, while Thankful slipped from 300 to 200 for a total of 2.71 million.

Josh stayed at 600, total 66,000.

Mandisa held at 300, total 98,000.

Chris S. held at 300, total 12,000. (Usual added, but unavailable to me, Christian bookstore sales apply.)

Clay's On My Way Here sold 300, down from 500, total 153,000. A Thousand Different Ways (528,000 total) and Measure of a Man (2.78 million) each stayed at 100.

Blake climbed from 100 to 200 for a total of 303,000.

Elliott stayed at 200, total 517,000.

Fantasia stayed at 100, total 517,000.

Katharine stayed at 100, total 373,000.

Bo stayed at 100, total 61,000.

Phil stayed at 100, total 36,000.

Brooke stayed at 100, total 10,000.

Ace stayed at 100, total 8,600.

Taylor's Early Works stayed at 100, total 3,900.

Idol downloads: David C.'s 'Light' dims; Bucky's back

For the second straight week, Idols make up 5% of the top 200 digital songs chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Heading the list of 10 is David A.'s Crush, which inches up 16-15 on the chart, though dropping 9% insales to 60,000 for a total of 694,000.

Jordin's One Step at a Time moves up 28-26, though its sales are nearly flat (it's up 205 downloads) at 43,000. Total is 833,000. No Air is down a tad, 95-96, selling 12%, down 4%, for a total of 2.52 million. Tattoo, by the way, now stands at 1.79 million, though it remains off the chart.

David C.'s new Light On tumbles 8-43, selling 31,000, down steeply (72%), for a two-week total of 140,000. The Time of My Life is also down, 71-86, selling 13,000, off 27%, for a total of 946,000.

Jennifer's Spotlight is down 38-49, selling 25,000, a drop of 23%, for a total of 202,000. Last week's 195 entrant by Jennifer, If This Isn't Love, falls off the chart.

Carrie's Just a Dream is down a peg, 56-57, selling 20,000, a drop of 4%, for a total of 270,000.

Daughtry's What About Now is up 76-73, but down a tad in sales, 1%, to 17,000, for a total of 409,000. Odd to see just one track apiece on the chart for Carrie and Chris, who enjoyed multi-track status for so long.

Kellie's Don't You Know You're Beautiful is down 133-147, selling 8,000, down 12%. It's now jumped into six figures with 103,000 sold.

And Bucky's current country hit, I'll Walk, enters the chart at 194 with 6,000 downloads sold, up 5%, for a total of 77,000.

Requests: Lucas wanted an update on three earlier Kellie tracks. Red High Heels has now sold 443,000, I Wonder has amassed 319,000 downloads and Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind is at 77,000.

And penpal99 was curious about the Sevendust track The Past, on which Chris D. sings. It has sold 10,000 copies.

Sad to see another drop but at least there is only 1 more week of sales before the Bonus Christmas songs come out. I know these may not have an immediate impact but it sure can't hurt.

maybe just a little but ill take anything right now
i just wish JAD would pick up on sales
i mean i know it will get promotion at the CMA but i still think it need more than that

I agree--- JAD is the least promoted song of any single released by Carrie to date. It is the only song that she has released, that has not been performed live on tv. I just don't get that. It is really hurting its sales and buzz.

I'm happy that JAD moved up to #37 on the Hot 100 this week. That ties Wasted's peak, but I'm sure JAD will go even higher as airplay picks up this week and digital sales go up after the CMAs!

The CMA and the re-release and the upcoming #1 song (after which, we will start requesting the song on other radios) will help sales.

See though I dont think Christmas songs are going to be as brilliant as we think. Wait i worded that wrong, the songs will be AMAZING! But shes releasing them towards the end of October....Christmas is like....2 months away pretty much. I dunno about you guys, but Im pretty sure I know people dont buy christmas music till Novembers end-ish....So i dunno how thats gonna go :/

yea i dont expect large sales gains until like november either
but i think she has enough fans that will buy it when it comes out to keep her sales up a little intil it kicks in
