HDD Sales Projection for Carnival Ride (week 50)

HDD's one-day sales report is up. The initial numbers for Kellie are not looking too good as she will not even match the sales for Julianne Hough or Jessica Simpson.

It’s all about the Dirty South next week, as rap entrepreneur’s sixth release, the Grand Hustle/Atlantic album Paper Trail, will debut on top of the HITS sales chart with 550k next week, fueled by the #1 CHR/Rhythmic single, “Whatever You Like.”

That’s the word from retailers around the country who took time out in their busy day selling microwaves and big-screen TVs to provide one-day sales figures.

Arista/RMG Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson’s self-titled debut is on target for between 215-225k right now, but an appearance on Oprah tomorrow (10/2), even though she won’t be performing, could jack those numbers even higher. At any rate, it’s a lock for #2 on the heels of her Top 5 R&B single, “Spotlight.”

Star Trak/Interscope blue-eyed soul man Robin Thicke will perform some chart “Magic,” with his new Something Else album looking like 150k, give or take, which would be good for #3 next week.

Hear Music/Concord Music legend James Taylor’s Covers is headed toward the 75-80k range, with plenty of help from Starbucks and QVC.

Sire Records Orange County keyboard rock band Jack's Mannequin could generate up to 50-55k for its sophomore album, The Glass Passenger. The group was formed by ex-Something Corporate member Andrew McMahon, who recovered from a life-threatening bout of leukemia to make this inspired comeback.

BNA recording artist and American Idol Kellie Pickler’s self-titled sophomore album is trending toward 40k.

Epic piano man Ben Folds’ Way to Normal, his follow-up to 2006’s Songs for Silverman, which debuted in the Top 15, appears headed for the same 40k ballpark.

Winter Haven, FL, Christian rockers Anberlin return with their second album for Universal Republic, New Surrender, which could do up to 35-40k or more, with strong Christian bookstore sales.

Roadrunner Orlando, FL, heavy metallers Trivium return with their fourth album, Shogun, which appears ready to sell between 25-30k.

The market was down 7% vs last week, down 29% vs same week last year and now down 12% year-to-date.

Ouch! I thought she would have no problem selling at least 70k. Is she doing any promotion?
And Jennifer Hudson's numbers are surprising. I had no idea she had an album coming out. Those numbers are very impressive.

I know she did the Today Show and Regis & Kelly. I don't know if there were any others.

Well, she was on CMT, GAC, Today show (oops, and Regis and Kelly as Cary just mentioned) and not sure where else but guess it is not helping that much. See, that is why I can't see how she wins all these polls unless she has a group that is very dedicated and vote non-stop 24 hrs a day. That is not against Kellie at all. She is a nice girl and I almost think her niche is hosting/co-hosting stuff with her personality. It is just that her numbers don't seem to coincide with the overwhelming wins on these small polls. Puzzles me. Anyway, it is lower then I thought it would be predicted to be.

Wow, I would have never thought Jennifer Hudson would have sold that much! I guess her roles in Dreamgirls (and Oscar win) and Sex and the City have really put her name out there. I have seen her video a few times when I have it on MTV Hits, but I've never heard her on the radio (which doesn't mean much since I rarely listen to anything other than country).

I was really hoping Kellie would do better, although I guess I should put my money where my mouth is since I didn't buy her first CD and probably won't buy this one either. I like Kellie, but I just haven't decided whether I like her enough to buy her CD's. Still, I would like to see her do well.

Cary - did you mean Julianne Hough, not Jennifer Hough?

Well maybe they underestimated. Kind of feel bad for her if she does not. That estimate is so low. They were right on the money for Jessica Simpson so boy are they right sometimes.

I hope she does well. I wouldn't want her label to drop her, like they tend to do with artists that don't sell.

it is low but still sales are really bad now, Kellie is artist that has consistency, her first album is still selling more than 1k every week. i know some Kellie haters out there are probaly happy and those stuffs but her album has a lot of song to keep the cd selling over the next year.

No mention of Faith Hill's Christmas album? It's selling very well at Amazon, and was outselling Kellie last time I looked. I'm really curious to see if a Christmas album sold in September is going to outdo Kellie's album. I just find that odd. I bought both, so I didn't help either one of them in their quest for the top spot...lol.

Maybe it will be consistant over a period of time and still do OK for her.

And speaking of Jennifer Hudson, her current single is #1 on Urban AC and #6 on Urban.

You are correct in that sentence. Kellie's first album started slow and it end up selling almost 800k, I remember it stayed selling 6k for while, very steady. So even if her first week numbers are not that impressive let's see how things go. She should be #1 at the country charts right?

About Jennifer Hudson those numbers are very good, I thought she was going to sell below the 100k mark. Good for her.
