Why is TS doing so well? All her music is stupid and it all talks about teenage love life. Phil Stacey is a 1,000,000x better than Taylor. Why wouldn't people buy Phil's album instead of Taylor's crap?

congrats to Phil for selling 15,000+ in his first week. Also Carrie is doing pretty well for how much CDs are selling these days.

I think the answer is in your second sentence. Look hard at it and the answer will pop out at you.

Taylor Swift sings about teenage topics. Teenagers, who are the biggest CD buyers out there, can relate to her music. So they're buying her album. In addition to that, she has at least two crossover songs that I know of. They are getting airplay on pop stations, so her teenage fanbase is even bigger.
This is the reason why Miley Cyrus is doing so well also. She appeals to the teenage CD-buying public too.
Whether us adults like their music or not, the teenagers do. Thus, they sell well.

Taylor increased because she was on Good Morning America and Live With Regis and kelly to perform early last week. Plus her OS pop remix is now playing on pop.
Carrie is doing well for how the music scene is selling cds now. She isn't doing any crossover stuff and hasn't done any appearences. She is doing the big Opry induction next week so i think her sales will increase for next week's numbers.

If Carrie did a few TV appearances, her #s would increase. I can't remember the last time she sang a song from CR on a major network (ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX). Maybe it was SNL... which is on kind of late.

IMO, I just don't know what the fuss about her. There are several teenage singers that are a 1,000,000 better than her. Does anyone think she's a good singer? I just think she's a 'countrified' version of Hilary Duff or Ashley Tisdale. I think this Taylor vs. Carrie battle is going to turn into a Britney vs Christina battle.

THANX cary. I needed that.
I just hate seeing her continuously going down- despite a great tour, and her songs all doing great on radio. LN is in the top 10 and I really thought it would help sales a little- not a lot--- unless it crosses to pop.
but these sluggish sales are dissapointing.
Should we expect a slight bump next week due to the opry invite? Or won't that impact sales until the following week, since it isn't until saturday? thanx.
Finally-- I have a question: does Carrie sell CR in the merchandise booth at her concerts? I did not see it at the keith show in nyc, (maybe it was sold out?) nor did I see it in albany in their booth either. I was hoping that was just a glitch. She really needs to sell copies of her cds at every show....perhaps they just sold out before I got there?

Thanks for giving a clear and concise answer to this endless question. It gets asked constantly and the answer is always the same and always so obvious.

There will be a bump next week, but it will probably be more due to Mothers' Day than the Opry induction.
