If Carrie gets so many good press, then I am wondering why her sales are not that strong. Maybe TS gets better press?

Didn't someone say that the first 2 milion of country CD sales are to country fans and the rest is gravy from non-country fans. This may be happening to our girl since this CD is more country.
TS is selling to pop fans now, and also she is reselling to country and pop fans and then reselling to country and pop fans. Etc, etc, etc.... More power to her.

yes, i think you are right. look at kenny chesney, keith urban, brad paisley... the biggest touring acts in country today. and look at their sales. successful tours dont equate to mega sales too... those who go to the concert probably own the album already, and are pretty big fans, thats why they go. i dont think people attend a concert without having bought the artists latest CD.

If Carrie want to sell more cds, and that's a good question in itself, she'll have to have a crossover song like Taylor. Markets are tapped out now. She needs to somehow get LN to crossover either by itself or have the label do some promo work in that genre. With the success of her tours so far, her cd sales are not indicative of her ability to sellout concert seats. Of course, that's if you consider selling over 2 million cds in just over 6 months a negative thing. I don't. She's doing just fine IMO.

Take a look at the most viewed country videos at AOL - I think most of Taylors following are not country fans, , however whatever fans she gets Carrie will prob get some of those just as there are Carrie fans who became TS fans

I agree with you jptexas over 2,000,000 copies in six months is great in these bad economic times and without a crossover hit released from the album yet but if LN crosses over and then the next single does so as well she'll be racking in the sales and re-sales in some cases and don't forget she's selling 2 albums not one so she's doing fantastic

Saw this on HDD. There are some interestign stats regarding music sales.
Quote:
|
NARM REPORT PART I: HITS Mark Pearson reports from S.F.: Nielsen Soundscan hosted a seminar on industry sales analysis and the results were predictable. Physical sales are down while digital sales are up. One of every four releases sells less than 100 copies. So the top of the chart continues to rule, but not quite as much as in past years. Historically, the Top 200 accounted for some 35% of the total music sales, where as in 07 that number went down to 25%. Tracking the rise in music sales since Soundscan started in 91 until 01, we have now given back all of those gains with sales now at 96 levels. American Idol and Disney Channel titles are doing better than anyone else over the last two years (knock us over with a feather). Video games continue to cut into music sales and non-trad sales are up significantly, but vinyl sales are through the roof, with 07 the best vinyl year since 91 (coming mostly from the indie retail sector). Four million tracks sold at least one copy, whereas 1 million tracks sold ONLY one copy. And ringtone sales continue to be healthy even though the market is flattening. (5/5p)

Yeah for vinyl! My poor turntable has been quiet for too long, I must go and exercise it a bit. All my vinyl records (and I have a bunch of them) must feel abandoned since I converted over to CDs many years ago, but I still have many treasured vinyl records that I really should give a spin.
Traditionally, record labels do not share in touring revenue, that is where most artists make the bulk of their income. With CD sales disappearing, there has been talk of the record companies trying to become a bigger part of their artist's careers so that they can get a share of touring revenue. I have no idea of this is going to happen in the future or not, but for now I think touring revenue goes primarily to the artist.

not artists that write their own songs and produce their own records and have other things like clothing lines beauty lines and other things like that and don't tour off every album
