Final figures in for Idol Tour '08: Much better than last year's
The final four dates for Idol Tour 2008 have been reported to Billboard Boxscore, and we've got the totals for the tour, so let's start with those. (An apology to the less numerically inclined among the Blog Pound; it's been a big day for numbers.)
Total revenues: $29.3 million (2007: $20.9 million; 2006: $35.2 million)
Total attendance: 482,870 (2007: 349,583; 2006: 645,782)
Average percentage of seats filled: 85.4% (2007: 68.4%; 2006: 96.1%)
Conclusions are pretty obvious: 2008's tour did substantially better than last year's but couldn't match 2006's numbers. Of course, a tour featuring Taylor on top, the popular Katharine, the stealth hitmaker Elliott, the mega-selling Chris D., and country stars Kellie and Bucky will be hard to top.
Now for those last four dates:
Sept. 8, Wilkes-Barre, Pa: 7,722 out of 8,587 seats filled: a solid 89.9%.
Sept. 10, Ft. Wayne, Ind.: 4,780 out of 7,438: a lackluster 64.3%
Sept. 11, Evansville, Ind.: 3,940 out of 6,359: a dismal 62.0% for the smallest venue on the tour.
Sept. 13, Tulsa, Okla.: 12,177 out of 12,177: a triumphal sellout to close the tour.
