Konocti Concert Review-My last Carrie concert of the year

My day started out in a Toronto airport and ended at Carrie’s concert in California last night. My flight into Sacramento landed a little after 4pm, and after the 2 hour drive, I arrived just in time for sunset BBQ dinner.

The opening act for Carrie was Fisher Stevenson. He is a new act and I had never heard of him before. He was pretty good, but it was funny because he mentioned that he was on the same label as Taylor Swift and then he mentioned her a few more times throughout the show. He only mentioned Carrie once and that was when he thanked her for letting him open up for her.

Finally it was time for Carrie and she came out to a thunderous applause. As usual she looked stunning. She wore a nice black dress and with high heels. Her hair looked great. I really like it when she has it natural without the extensions. The dress was pretty short and later on in the show Carrie mentioned that she had shorts on underneath. She laughed and said “there will be no wardrobe malfunctions tonight”. The set was different from most of the shows I have seen this year. She didn’t perform “Crazy Dreams” or “ITYS”. There was also no SH medley. Unfortunately, Carrie didn’t perform her new cover of “Voices Carry”. Because this was my last Carrie concert of the year, I was really hoping that she would sing this new song. I am sure that several people have mentioned the Bug incident, but it was really funny. It took Carrie about half the song to recover from her giggling fit as she sang the “IAICA” Before she sang “Just a dream” Carrie mentioned that it was a serious song but that the first time she heard it she knew she wanted to record it. Before “DFTRM” she talked about being on the road a lot and then she spoke about having to be up late most nights, which meant that they got to sleep in most mornings. She laughed and then said that she still got up early because she had to clean. During “TMBIM” Carrie pointed out a guy who had made a great sign. It said something about asking the audience if I a great guy and he had given a bunch of sings to people to hold up that said YES!

From the very start of the show Carrie really seemed to be energized for the show. “So small” isn’t one of my favorite songs, but Carrie sang it with such emotion tonight that I found myself really liking it. As usual Carrie’s performance of “IKYW” just blew me away. I find myself wanting her to release it as a single just so that I can be sure that she will continue to perform it in concert. They didn’t release my 2 favorite songs from SH so I have really missed hearing them live this year. As usual there were a lot of little girls in the audience and I think the loudest of the bunch was sitting directly behind us. As Carrie heard the screams she gave our section lots of smiles and waves, and even a couple of winks!

As Carrie rocked out on “Paradise City” I found myself a little depressed, as I realized my last Carrie concert of the year was coming to an end. The night seemed to just fly by. As I sat in the parking lot for about an hour I went through the pictures I had taken and I found that I got a couple of good shots. I rarely get a good picture of Carrie with Jamie, but I got a couple of nice shots tonight. At the very beginning of the show I got called out by a security guard for taking video. He pretty much watched me like a hawk the rest of the evening. I got a video of “Wasted” and the beginning of “GOTT”. I was really hoping to get another video of “IKYW” but hopefully someone else got a video of it.

As I made the drive back to Sacramento I found myself thinking about the many shows I was fortunate to see this year. Each concert has given me more and more respect for what Carrie does with her music. She literally changes the lives of people with her amazing gift. As I travel through Europe this fall, I hope to introduce many of my new coworkers and friends to Carrie’s music. Who knows, maybe Carrie will plan a quick trip to Europe this winter (hey a guy can dream!). As my Carrie adventures close for the year I am already looking forward to next year. If 2009 is anything like 2008 we are in for another great year of Carrie performances!!!!

Here is a link to more of my favorite pictures from last night!!!!!!!
